Opened in 2013 with great excitement in Dallas, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum is one of only 13 presidential libraries across the country. The center is located on a 23-acre site at Southern Methodist University and boasts the second largest presidential library to date. Operated by the National Archives and Records Administration, it includes 80 terabytes of digital information, over 200 million emails and more than 43,000 artifacts from the George W. Bush administration. The museum contains interactive exhibits examining multiple key events throughout George W. Bush’s time in office including the September 11th attacks. And, of course, no presidential library would be complete without a replica of the Oval Office. One exciting element of the center is the temporary exhibition gallery. Through October 5, 2014 the gallery will host an exhibit titled Oscar de la Renta: Five Decades of Style. The exhibit debuted at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Arkansas but you know what they say: everything is bigger in Texas, so the exhibit has more than doubled the original size to 64 creations exclusively for the Dallas audience. Pieces include Laura Bush’s white inaugural suit, Jenna Bush’s wedding gown, as well as pieces worn by celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour. Tickets vary by age with special discounts for servicemen and women. Visitors can take the DART Rail to Mockingbird Station and walk about 10 minutes to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Southern Methodist University.
