Going to the State Fair? Here’s What Not to Do

rgl_3639 The State fair is finally here. Take heed of the following don’ts to make DARTing to the fair a breeze. 1.) DON’T activate your GoPass ticket until the day you go to the fair. Seriously, don’t. You can save time and money when you purchase your State Fair of Texas tickets and DART passes with the GoPass app. Set up your GoPass account and buy your tickets in advance, but DON’T activate them until the day you go to the fair. The app is free through the Google Play store or the App Store. 2.) DON’T drive to Fair Park [unless you really, really have to]. DART’s Green Line takes you straight to Fair Park’s main entrance. Riding DART gives fans a choice of two Green Line stations — Fair Park, located on Parry Avenue at the main entrance to the fairgrounds, or MLK, Jr., located south of R.B. Cullum Blvd., close to Gate 6 and the Cotton Bowl Stadium. Before hopping on the Green Line, you can take advantage of free parking available at many DART stations. 3.) DON’T forget that Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) are still great resources for purchasing DART passes. TVMs accept cash and credit cards and dispense Two-hour, Midday, Day, 7 Day and 31 Day Passes. You can use the TVMs to purchase DART's two basic fares -- a $2.50 Local Pass for two hours of travel on all DART buses and trains and Trinity Railway Express trains between Union Station and CentrePort/DFW Airport Station, and a $5.00 Regional Pass for two hours of travel on all DART buses and trains and all Trinity Railway Express service, plus the T in Fort Worth and the DCTA in Denton County. TVMs also provide reduced fares for seniors, students in the DART service area and other select riders. For more information on all DART fares check out the DART Fares page. 4.) DON’T throw safety to the wind. Be aware of your surroundings. If you spot something that just doesn’t seem right, contact DART Police at 214-928-6300 or call 911. You also can text 41411 and type DARTpolice at the beginning of your messages to communicate discretely with police dispatchers. Also, make sure to follow DART’s safety guidelines when riding.'> 5.) DON’T forget to have fun! I mean, it’s the state fair. We’re talking funnel cakes, live shows and fried JELL-O after all.
