Meet #OurDART Team for the D2 Subway!

Posted on Jun 8, 2017 by dartdallas
Transit projects like the D2 Subway are a big deal for everyone involved, including North Texas residents, businesses, and the neighborhoods through which the subway will run. Have you ever wondered who is behind the implementation of a project like this? Planning and building a new transit project brings together different types of workers who specialize in different aspects of transit planning and implementation: Planners work out the technical and environmental details, engineers implement the design, community liaisons gather public feedback to ensure concerns are being heard, and, eventually, construction workers, manufacturers, and contractors will build the D2 Subway.

Meet the DART D2 Subway Team!

We think it’s important to share with you some of the people dedicated to finding a transit solution that benefits everyone:

Meet Chad, Assistant Vice President of Capital Planning

At DART, Chad is responsible for oversight of several areas including corridor development, feasibility assessments, transit system planning and travel demand modeling.
“I am looking forward to seeing how this second light-rail alignment will not only reduce congestion but increase connectivity for all North Texans throughout downtown Dallas and the region.”

Meet Carlos, Community Engagement Manager for the D2 Subway

Carlos has been involved in DART’s Community Engagement efforts since 2002.  He has worked on several high-profile projects such as the Orange Line to DFW from 2004-2014 and the D2 Study which began in 2007.
“I like working on the D2 Subway project because I have seen the downtown Dallas area grow so much in the past ten years with residents and actual communities.  In Community Engagement, we see a thriving downtown Dallas residential community as a great opportunity for new public input and feedback to help make the D2 Subway line the best possible system for many future generations.”

Meet Ernie, Project Manager

Ernie has worked for DART since 2000, after having had previous stints at transportation agencies in Austin.  He’s worked on roadway and transit projects throughout his career, and has focused exclusively on light rail and some streetcar in Downtown Dallas since 2007.
“What sets this transportation project apart from others I’ve managed, and why I love working on the D2 project, is because I’ve been exposed to stakeholders and individuals that represent Downtown businesses, projects or programs that they’re passionate about. The project is important for multiple reasons, including that it serves regional travel (i.e. provides capacity to the main artery of the light rail system and complementary regional rail network that serves the DFW area) and plays a part in enhancing the livability/marketability of Downtown.”

Meet Kay, Project Manager

Kay has more than 20 years of transportation planning experience, ranging from small site-specific studies to large, complex corridor projects.  Kay managed DART Transit System Plan update for the Year 2030 and is actively involved in a variety of planning projects including streetcar, bus and light rail.  She is currently managing the 2040 Transit System Plan effort.
“It’s a critical step towards adding capacity that will sustain our system and position both DART and the region for further expansion in the future.”

Meet Steve, Vice President of Capital Planning

As Vice President, Capital Planning for DART he directs all rail corridor-planning activities for the agency. His duties include multimodal system planning, rail corridor planning, and travel demand forecasting. He also ensures compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
“The second alignment will bring greater flexibility to the overall system. I am most looking forward to watching it interact with the rest of DART’s transit solutions.”

 Join Us

The D2 Subway Team is excited to continue the development process for this project, and we will continue to collaborate with the public as we move toward a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA).  Be sure to join the team for an online conversation about finalizing the LPA, progressing toward our milestones, and how the project is helping move North Texas forward during our upcoming Facebook Live Event on June 22 at 12 PM CDT. Together, we can design a D2 Subway alignment that works for all of North Texas. UPDATE: Didn’t get a chance to tune-in? No worries, you can find a recording of our Facebook LIVE here.
