DART has been part of the North Texas community since 1983. Since that time, DART has strived to be more than just a transportation solution.
In an effort to be a good neighbor to North Texas, DART hosts a wide range of services and programs designed to help the region thrive.
Beginning with Education
DART seeks to empower all kinds of North Texans to use our transit network. To encourage new riders, we offer personalized training with our Travel Ambassadors to match a potential rider’s needs and travel plans. We’ve also developed a comprehensive education program that helps current and prospective customers of all ages understand how to utilize public transportation to improve their daily lives.
DART’s Transit Education program utilizes on-site presentations, tours, free transportation curriculum, and representation at local community events. Transportation presentations provide information on safety, trip planning, environmental benefits of DART services, and careers in public transportation. Through education services, DART hopes to encourage idea sharing, and create an open dialogue about the current DART system and future projects.
One of DART’s signature education programs is
DART’s Travel Ambassador Program, that provides free travel orientation to anyone who needs extra help using DART’s bus or rail service. These ambassadors teach necessary skills that are required to independently navigate public transportation, such as skills for trip planning, paying fares, and travel safety.
DART is There in Times of Need
DART doesn’t shut down when dangerous weather strikes, or emergencies happen. In fact, many times DART is one of the first responders. For example, following the tornadoes that damaged Garland and Rowlett right after the Christmas holiday in 2015, DART provided free bus shuttle services to help residents reach community centers after the storms. Fire departments in the DART service areas often contact DART to provide buses for temporary shelter for those affected by residential fires. DART knows that our job doesn’t begin and end with the work day. We are committed to providing services when our community needs them most.
DART thinks it’s important to help residents not just during dangerous weather, but also during important civic times, like Election Day. We encourage all North Texans to take advantage of their civic freedoms, and to support this important activity,
we offer free DART rides on Election Day to passengers displaying a valid voter registration card.
Giving Back to Our Community
Giving back to North Texas is a part of DART’s mission. That’s why during the holiday season, our own police force strives to get out and do good in the community.
DART’s Santa Cops provide meals and toys to families-in-need during this special time of year. Officers volunteer their time and money to help those struggling, especially those they see when on patrol. These DART employees consider this a highlight of working for DART and strive to help all North Texans enjoy a happy holiday season.
DART is more than just a transportation system. We are a community partner and we know our duties go beyond simple transportation during the workday. Through our education, charitable, and emergency service efforts, DART is committed to helping our entire region thrive.
