New Opportunities Thanks to an Interconnected Transit System

DART's transit system covers more than 700 square miles connecting communities across North Texas with accessible and reliable transit. As an interconnected, multi-modal network, residents and visitors now have more mobility in a region where people have previously relied on personal vehicles. DART has the ability to be flexible and extend service to many different parts of the region with an interconnected network of multiple transit modes including rail, bus, and streetcar. To be effective, DART's transit system must be designed well in order to function well, which comes from extensive, thought-out planning and budgeting of all the intricacies that make up the transportation network. Here are a few examples of how an interconnected DART benefits the region: Linking North Texas to the Education Corridor and South Dallas. With DART's Blue Line extension opening for service, students at UNT Dallas, Paul Quinn College, and Cedar Valley College will have access to job opportunities, cultural events, and social engagements throughout the region. Vice versa, North Texas residents are now connected to education opportunities at these institutions. Spurring economic growth for all of North Texas. Expanded transit drives development, job creation, and increases tax revenue. Transit-oriented development has already generated $69 million in tax revenue, and over 2014 to 2015 spurred 43,000 new jobs, and $3 billion in wages. Connecting North Texas' communities. Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker explains how DART boosts his city:
"In July 2002, Richardson became the first city outside of Dallas to welcome DART light rail and today our community benefits from four stations. Since then, access to DART has had a tremendous and positive impact on our community, spurring transit-oriented developments such as the $1.5 billion CityLine project. Through such developments, light rail has clearly helped bring quality jobs, attracted new dining, shopping and entertainment venues, contributed significantly to the city's tax base and fostered dynamic, walkable neighborhoods that enhance Richardson's overall quality of life." -Mayor Paul Voelker
DART's reach extends beyond its 13-city service area, bringing cultural, educational, and social opportunities for you to explore right in your backyard. Flexible, multi-modal transit service is key to investing in North Texas, ensuring economic prosperity via a mobile region for all.
