Convention Center Station Saturday for the 2014 FRI Remembrance Stair Climb hosted by Dallas Fire-Rescue, with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the downtown Omni Dallas Hotel. Members of the public will join firefighters from around North Texas and the country to climb the stairs of the Omni Hotel in five cycles, from the 2nd to 23rd floor, reaching a total of 110 flights. Proceeds raised will go to benefit the programs of the NFFF; and the Lieutenant Todd Wesley Krodle Memorial Foundation, which was created to award college scholarships to high school seniors who are children of DFR members, and to assist future DFR Line of Duty Death families. The Dallas Climb is at the Omni Dallas Hotel, 555 S. Lamar St. Registration is limited to the first 343 people who sign up (in honor and remembrance of the 343 firefighters from the New York Fire Department (FDNY) who died on September 11, 2001). Check-in will open at 7:30 a.m. on August 16th, and the climb will begin at 9:10 a.m. Registration is open to the public at: www.active.com. Information: www.facebook.com/2014FRIstairclimb.

MLK, Jr. Station for Butterflies and Bugs! Family Festival at Texas Discovery Gardens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m Saturday. Join in the annual celebration of insects! Enjoy displays of live and pinned insects, family friendly activities, butterfly house tours, crafts and more. Stay cool indoors!
