What’s in store for 2019?

We’ve had a great 2018 here at DART, and we’re gearing up for a bigger and better 2019! We have a range of transit initiatives planned for 2019 to keep North Texas moving and make getting around the region more flexible and fluid. We’re excited to be advancing more than $2.5 billion in rail projects, extending platforms at 28 stations along the Red and Blue lines, introducing new features on our GoPass mobile ticketing app, along with other transit developments. With so much going on, let’s take a closer look at what the new year has in store. Cotton Belt 2019 will be an exciting year for the Cotton Belt project. The 26-mile Cotton Belt track will join 7 cities across North Texas and connect to the Orange, Green, and Red lines, as well as TEXRail. Design work is set to begin early in 2019 and is expected to take six to eight months to complete. Construction will follow soon afterward, starting with utility relocation and foundation work for bridges. D2 Subway Planning on the D2 Subway will continue through 2019. The D2 Subway will increase capacity through the busiest corridor of downtown Dallas and allow DART to redistribute its rail lines between two downtown rail corridors. Once complete, the D2 Subway will add much needed operational flexibility and allow more people to access all that the communities of Downtown Dallas have to offer. Platform Extensions On November 28, 2018, the U.S. Department of Transportation granted an additional $2 million to DART’s Red and Blue line Platform Extensions project. Construction will begin in 2019 to raise and extend platforms at 28 stations across the Red and Blue lines. The completed project will allow us to operate three-car trains, helping us address the growing demand for DART’s rail system, reduce overcrowding during peak times and special events, and increase room for passengers, making for a more comfortable journey. GoPass App In late 2018, DART updated our GoPass mobile ticketing app, allowing fare-capping and a “cash-to-mobile” option. In 2019, the GoPass app will be integrated with other transportation modes, including car and ride-share, helping customers create and pay for a complete ride in a single app and making transit even more affordable. This is just one of the many ways DART is creating a seamless network of ways to get around North Texas, effectively and efficiently. We’re looking forward to delivering these and other transit developments to the North Texas region in 2019. Stay tuned to DART Daily to keep up to date on everything that the new year will bring.
