The newest option for paying your DART fare is now live on our buses and rail stations – Contactless Payment!
That means, you can pay your fare using your contactless credit or debit card issued on the Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, or Discover® networks. You also can use your payment-enabled mobile device that has Google Pay™, Apple Pay®, Samsung Pay®, Fitbit Pay™, or similar.
Simply hold your card or device up to any GoPass® Tap reader. GoPass Tap card readers are located on the platforms at rail stations, on board buses, and on Dallas Streetcar vehicles.
Contactless Payment is part of DART’s ongoing effort to improve your traveling experience and expand your fare-payment alternatives to carrying cash.
Still unsure on how Contactless Payment works? Here are the top things you need to know:
Each person must use a different, unique contactless debit/credit card or payment-enabled mobile device to pay their fare.
If you need to buy tickets or passes for multiple people, we recommend you purchase passes on the GoPass® app or at the ticket vending machine.
The GoPass® Tap system tracks the taps of your contactless card or device to ensure that you have paid your fare. The system also tracks the fares you accrue each day so that you never pay more than the cost of a Local Adult Day Pass.
If you use a contactless payment method, the system will automatically charge your card for the best Adult Local fare for the time you board – either a Midday ($2) or AM/PM ($3) pass. Once you have accrued $6 in fares in a single day, you won’t be charged again, but you must continue to tap your card or device each time you board.
If you qualify for a reduced fare – like Child, Student, Senior, or Disabled – you need to purchase your DART fare through the GoPass app or ticket vending machine (TVM), or apply for a Reduced GoPass Tap card at DART.org/reduced. To see if you qualify for a reduced fare, visit DART.org/fares.
If you need to travel beyond the DART System, please purchase a Regional Pass in the GoPass app or at the ticket vending machine.
If a DART fare enforcement officer asks to validate your fare, simply tap the contactless card or mobile device on their inspection device. As with the card readers, the device will emit a green light and sound if you have valid fare.
Fare enforcement officers can only check that you have a valid fare. You cannot tap and pay your fare once you are on board.
Contactless Payment users automatically receive the best fares and daily fare capping like GoPass app and GoPass Tap card users do.
You can also receive monthly fare capping with contactless payment if you register your contactless credit or debit card, or the card associated with your payment-enabled device, on GoPass.org. Plus, you can view your recent transactions on all registered cards.
