It’s a great weekend for foodies and theater goers. And, of course, that means it’s a great weekend for DART riders. Check out this weekend’s offerings.

Friday, May 31

Taste Addison kicks off today and runs all weekend. The three-day culinary cornucopia at Addison Circle Park is a food lover’s paradise. There are scores of restaurants there to tempt you – and with reduced prices, no less. You’ll also find chef demonstrations, wine tastings, and other foodie kinds of things. Music is also on the menu. To get there, take one of numerous buses to Addison Transit Center

Summer and Smoke is the play Tennessee Williams wrote right after “A Streetcar Named Desire.”  Despite their differences, a quiet preacher's daughter and a wild, pleasure-seeking doctor are drawn to each other. They have an almost-romance that is engaging and heartbreaking. The play explores the conflict between hedonism and spirituality. This is the first weekend of the Classics Theatre Project’s production. Performances run through June 22 at the Margo Jones Theatre at Magnolia Lounge – a short walk from either Fair Park and MLK, Jr. stations on the Green Line.

Saturday, June 1

Free First Saturdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center presents child-friendly programming from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and free admission for all until 5 p.m. Each month, you and your child can create and discover.  Make art with guest artists, get creative with the Writer’s Garrett, and tap your toes to the sounds of DJ Sudie. The Nasher is about a 5-minute walk from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines. You can also get there on the M-Line Trolley.

Anjelah Johnson brings her singular brand of comedy – including a roster of hilarious characters – to The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. The early show has already sold out, but as of press time there were still tickets left for the 10 p.m. show.  The venue is a 10-minute walk from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station, and trains run until 1:26 a.m.

Sunday, June 2

Fortuny: Friends and Followers closes after today at The Meadows Museum. The exhibition of Mariano Fortuny y Marsal’s work shows the artist’s world explored through a variety of subjects. You’ll see representations of 19th century Paris and Venice, portraits of the artists’ friends and family, and many other scenes. You can get to the Meadows Museum by taking the Museum Express (Route 743), which departs from Mockingbird Station on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.

DART is making major improvements.

To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements are under way and will continue until September. During that time, DART Rail in Downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District and West End stations. Bus bridges will be in operation. DART.org/plus
