National Bike to Work Day is May 17. DART is encouraging North Texans to consider these top five reasons why they should leave their car at home and, instead, ride their bike to the nearest DART Rail Station or bus stop.
1. DART is bike friendly
DART makes it easy to add cycling to your commute. There are bike lids and/or racks at most rail stations and transit centers. They are free of charge and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to take your bike with you, the center car of every DART Rail vehicle has a low-floor section that offers level boarding with the rail platform. Likewise, most DART buses have an easy-to-use bike rack on the front of the vehicle.
2. Save money
A local Day Pass on DART is $6. Combining DART with cycling, you save on gas, wear and tear on your vehicle and, in some cases, parking fees.
3. Reduce stress and commute time
Who likes being stuck in traffic? It makes for a stressful and time-consuming commute. When you bike and ride DART, you have more time for you. That means while riding DART to and from work, you could catch up on your favorite show, read emails, chat with the person sitting next to you or just decompress.
4. Improve your health
A hectic professional and personal life can make it difficult to get to the gym. By incorporating cycling into your commute, exercise becomes part of your daily routine.
5. Protect the environment
Fewer vehicles on the road means less traffic congestion and air pollution. DART is hosting Energizer Stations May 17 from 7-9 a.m. There will be free bike safety checks, refreshments and more. Visit DART.org/bike for additional information.
