The City of Carrollton is a vibrant corporate and residential community located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The city is home to  more than 135,800 residents and 15,000 businesses who are drawn to the high quality of life, abundant parks, 30+ miles of hike & bike trails, great schools, and safe neighborhoods.

The city joined DART in 1983, and DART began a new non-stop express bus service between downtown Dallas and Carrollton in September 1984. DART opened the North Carrollton Transit Center in October 1988.

The Green Line of DART Rail was completed in December 2010 and included three stations in Carrollton: Downtown Carrollton, Trinity Mills, and North Carrollton/Frankford Station. The agency closed the North Carrollton Transit Center, which was replaced by bus bays at the new Trinity Mills Station. Denton County Transportation Authority’s A-train commuter rail line opened in June 2011. The lines terminus at DART’s Trinity Mills Station created a convenient transfer point between the two transit systems.

DART currently operates two GoLink zones within the city – Northwest Carrollton and Keller Springs GoLink – to provide additional transit coverage.

A new Silver Line Regional Rail platform is under construction at Downtown Carrollton Station, which will give riders in the northwestern portion of the DART Service Area a place to transfer between rail lines – making Carrollton one of the most connected cities in the DFW area.

DART ridership in Carrollton in Q3 FY 2023 was:

• 166,469 boardings on DART Rail at the Downtown Carrollton, Trinity Mills, and North Carrollton/Frankford stations.
• 86,113 boardings on DART Bus Routes 229, 232, 233, and 235.
• 11,868 boardings in the Northwest Carrollton and Keller Springs GoLink zones.
• 6,501 Paratransit trips

DART’s Green Line helps spark a revitalization of Carrollton’s downtown area. The city took an active role by reconstructing key roads, building additional parking lots and a parking garage, and rehabilitating the historic square. Carrollton is currently conducting an upgrade of the Downtown Master Plan, the Parks Master Plan, and aims to develop a long-range strategy with their Destination 2040 vision plan which will articulate the City’s aspirations for the future.

The city executed its first public-private partnership to create the Union at Carrollton Square, a mixed-use development featuring apartments and a Twisted Root Burger Company restaurant on the ground floor. That catalyst project has attracted additional multifamily housing, mixed-use development, and new retail to the downtown area.

At Trinity Mills Station on the site of the former North Carrollton Transit Center, DART and the City of Carrollton have partnered to transform 25 acres of combined land into the largest publicly owned transit-oriented development in Dallas-Fort Worth. The mixed-use urban village was named Trinity Mills Station for its namesake transit stop and will include a variety of high-density residential, office, and retail uses along with a central public space while incorporating enhanced pedestrian amenities and supporting transit ridership.

The City of Carrollton and its partners held an on-site ceremony in December 2023 to launch the construction of EVIVA Trinity Mills – the five-story mixed-use structure that will blend residential and retail/restaurant spaces and feature more than 430 multi-family units and live-work spaces. It is the third monumental milestone of the Trinity Mills TOD behind the approval for a 125,000-square foot, six-story class A office structure in April 2020, and the three-acre green park esplanade approved in December 2020 and completed in July 2023.
