What’s better than no school? No school and riding DART to the fair, of course. Students from across North Texas can leave their textbooks behind and venture to the State Fair on Columbus Day, Oct. 10., one of the busiest fair days of the season.
From the Kid’s Boardwalk to The Taylor Swift Experience, Columbus Day at the fair offers students a variety of fun entertainment.
Students also can watch Nashville-based singer and songwriter Ben Rector headline the Columbus Day concert at 5:30 p.m. as a part of the Texas State Fair’s free concert lineup.
Use DART’s reduced student and children’s passes to get to all the fun. These reduced fares cover:
- Children ages 5-14 (Children under age 5 may ride free when accompanied by an adult with valid local, regional or reduced fare [up to two children].)
- High school students with valid DART High School Student ID or student high school photo ID. High school fares are valid Monday through Friday only.
- College/Trade School students with valid DART-issued college/trade student photo ID for full-time undergraduate students registered at schools which are located in the DART Service Area and are not participating in the Higher Education Program. Click here to view a list of schools participating in the Higher Education Program.
High volumes of visitors are expected to attend the fair on Columbus Day. Make sure and take DART’s Green Line to the fair to avoid traffic congestion. The Green Line gives visitors a choice of two stations — Fair Park, located on Parry Avenue at the main entrance to the fairgrounds, or MLK, Jr., located south of R.B. Cullum Blvd., close to Gate 6 and the Cotton Bowl Stadium. Before hopping on the Green Line, you can take advantage of free parking available at
many DART stations.
DART and TRE will be operating a special schedule for Columbus Day. For more information about these service visit
