Stay fit this Thanksgiving and DART to the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot, which takes place Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning at Dallas City Hall Plaza.

With an 8-mile run, a 5K run/walk and a 1K Junior Trot for kids between 6 and 11 years old, the event offers activities for any fitness level.

Here are 10 things you should know before you go:

1. Register for the Race
Online registration continues until 6p.m. Wednesday, Nov.27.  After that, race-day registration will be available at the event from 7-8:50 a.m.

2. Arrive Early
Dallas City Hall Plaza opens at 7 a.m. Expect to arrive no later than 8:00 a.m. to allow for visiting concessions and vendors and walking to the race start area.

3. Dress for the Weather
Rain or shine, the Turkey Trot must go on. Dress in layers so you can be comfortable all morning.

4. Park for Free at a DART Station
Skip the hassle and expense of parking downtown and park for free at DART transit centers or rail stations with parking lots. View a list of available parking at DART.org/parking.

5. Ride Any Line to Downtown Dallas
Ride the Blue, Green, Orange or Red Line to Akard Station and Dallas City Hall Plaza is a short walk from there.

6. Buy Your Transit Passes with the GoPass App
Use DART’s GoPass app to buy your transit passes in advance. But, don’t activate your pass until the day you attend the Turkey Trot. Download the app for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.

7. Bring the Whole Family
Bring the whole family and enjoy vendor booths, face paintings, bounce houses and balloon artists.

8. Bring Non-Aggressive Dogs on Leashes
Non-aggressive dogs that can socialize well may attend the Turkey Trot.  Dogs may come as spectators with their owners or they may participate in the Trot by completing a Dog Registration. See the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot’s Dog/Stroller Policy for more details.

Non-service animals are allowed on DART vehicles when carried in an appropriate, securely latched cage or container. See DART’s policy at dart.org/riding/serviceanimals.

9. Roll onto the Low-Floor Center Rail Cars
The center car of every DART Rail vehicle has a low-floor section that offers level boarding with the rail platform – perfect for Turkey Trot goers with strollers and wheelchairs. DART’s new buses also have low-floor sections and are equipped with ramps that deploy for level boarding from the curb.

10. Proceeds Benefit YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas
Proceeds from the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot benefit the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, which provides more than $300,000 in after school programs and scholarships.
