img_0073-edit DART’s into the giving spirit, and a little friendly competition. Each year, the agency's departments compete to see which can raise the most food or money for Union Gospel Mission, a Dallas-based nonprofit supporting people who are hungry and homeless in area. We call this match a food fight, and on Friday, at the agency's headquarters, and as part of DART’s 20th annual Friendly Food Fight, the Mission received a donation of 18,788 pounds, or 9.39 tons, of nonperishable food and more than $10,000 to help those in need in the Dallas area. "I am deeply moved by the partnership we have with, you," Union Gospel Mission Executive Director, William Thompson, said to a crowd of DART employees. "Because of our great love, we extend our hands of thanksgiving to you." DART President and Executive Director, Gary Thomas, presented numerous packages of food items as well as monetary gifts to the Mission during Friday's celebration event. “Union Gospel Mission sees the human toll daily, and they do good work year-round -- not just during the holiday season,” Thomas said. “This event has become a tradition here at DART, and I am proud to see the true spirit of the season in action.” Top contenders in this year’s Friendly Food Fight included, the Procurement Department, which raised, 1,775 pounds of food, the Marketing and Communication Department, which raised $4,325 in monetary contributions and the Information Technology Department, which raised more than 4,014 pounds of food for Union Gospel Mission.
