olderamericans-pano For 20 years, we have hosted an annual Older Americans Month Information and Health Fair as a capstone to our senior adult education outreach program. For the first time, the event took place at Centennial Hall in Dallas’ historical Fair Park. More than 1,000 people attended the event which featured health screenings and information, DART services and vehicles, entertainment and more. Our community sponsors were the Area Agency on Aging of Dallas County, the City of Dallas, and Age Well Live Well Dallas. The fun, festive and informative event featured health screenings and information, entertainment and giveaways. More than 50 vendors were on hand including AARP, health service providers, senior housing communities, charitable organizations, financial advisers, governmental services and more. FOX 4 Anchor Clarice Tinsley was the host and emcee. DART President/Executive Director Gary Thomas gave the keynote address. "Aging well is all about options and I hope you found some options today," Thomas told the crowd. DART is one of thousands of organizations that hold events in May as part of Older Americans Month. The national observance began in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy to acknowledge the contributions of older persons and draw attention to their needs and concerns.
