Downtown Garland Market

The weekend is bursting with DARTable events that cater to your mind, body and soul. Plays and exhibits, live dance battles, an artsy marketplace and a yoga festival will make you a well-rounded person.

Friday, Nov. 9

The Urban Movement Festival brings the culture of the hip-hop movement - with underground 2-VS-2 Dance Battles and Dance Team showcases - to Plano’s McCall Plaza. The festival is an all-ages event with some great local talent, including The Alliance, Ftroop Boys and Happy Meal. Dance contests and vendors add to the fun at this free festival happening from 5-9 p.m. McCall Plaza is a block south of the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.

The Lady from the Sea is a classic in its first weekend at Undermain Theater. Written by the great Henrik Ibsen, the play is about a lighthouse-keeper's daughter. She’s trapped on an island, trapped in her marriage, and yearning for escape on the high seas. Wouldn’t you know it? Along comes an attractive stranger who happens to be a seafaring sort. Will she give in to convention, or to temptation? The Undermain is a short walk from Baylor University Medical Center Station on the Green Line.

Saturday, Nov. 10

The Urban Flea is a great way to enjoy the awesome fall weather forecast for Saturday. The market in Downtown Garland is full of stylish vintage finds, handmade items and artfully repurposed bric-a-brac. Enjoy live music and soak up the cool “Mom & Pop” atmosphere of Downtown Garland – a short stroll from (you guessed it) Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line. The event is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cosmic Yogi Festival helps you get your “om” on with tons of yoga and meditation classes –  plus gongs, drum circles and vendors. And it wouldn’t be as cosmic without a vegan food truck. The festival is open to everyone from beginners (including kids) to advanced practitioners of the ancient Indian art. The indoor-outdoor festival happens at the Addison Conference & Theatre Centre, a short walk from Addison Transit Center. Bus Route 534 will take you right there.

All Weekend

Ultimate Dinosaurs at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science unveils a whole new breed of dinosaur. (Well, newly discovered.) Highlights include 15 casts, more than a dozen prehistoric specimens, lifelike recreations and touchable fossils. It truly is the ultimate in dinosaur exhibits. Take any DART Rail line to Akard or West End station and the Perot Museum is a short walk from either.

Slavery at Jefferson's Monticello: Paradox of Liberty is a major exhibition at the African American Museum. With more than 300 artifacts, works of art and documents unearthed at Jefferson's famous plantation, it brings history to life. The acclaimed exhibition was popular during its Smithsonian run in 2012 – and since then, it’s been updated with new content. The African American Museum is the first to show it. Take the Green Line to Fair Park Station to see the exhibit.

Where are you going this weekend on DART? Send us a selfie of you and your friends en route, and we may make you world-famous by posting it here on the blog.
