Dallas Marathon

The holiday season is in full swing, as a weekend full of DARTable, seasonal events attests. It’s also the weekend of the big marathon. Read on to see where DART can take you.

 

Thursday, Dec. 12-Saturday, Dec. 15

Scrooge The Musical! is a timeless musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' well-known seasonal classic. Experience it at the Courtyard Theater, right across Haggard Park from the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.

Friday, Dec. 13

Dallas Zoo Lights
is a spectacular display that fills the zoo grounds with more than two million lights, plus dozens of animal-shaped light sculptures and lanterns. See the luminous show on select evenings through Jan. 4. Get there by taking the Red Line to Dallas Zoo Station.

The Dallas Opera Holiday Concert features soprano Kathleen O’Mara, and bass Keron Jackson. Selections include “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Ave Maria.” The performance takes place at the National Shrine Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Dallas Arts District. That’s walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.

A Christmas Carol is Dallas Theater Center’s annual production, featuring spectacular sets and rousing music. The holiday favorite embodies the spirit of Christmas.  See it through Dec. 28 at the Wyly Theatre, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.


Friday, Dec. 13-Saturday, Dec. 14

CityLine Merry Market presents a festive wonderland for two nights. The event takes place throughout CityLine Plaza and State Street, and features an extensive lineup of local vendors offering handmade items, vintage goods, unique gifts, and much more. There are also kids’ activities and live music. Get there by taking the Red Line to CityLine/Bush Station.


Friday, Dec. 13-Sunday, Dec. 15

BMW Dallas Marathon Festival begins with the Friday Night Lights Mile, is followed by a 5K and 10K races on Saturday, and culminates with full, half and ultra-marathons on Sunday. There will also be a 10K, 5K (running and walking), 5K Team Challenge, and the 100-Yard Dash Oncor Kid’s Race. It all centers on the Dallas City Hall Plaza. That’s walkable from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from EBJ Union Station on the TRE. The TRE does not run on Sunday.


Saturday, Dec. 14

Home for the Holidays features the Irving Symphony Orchestra performing favorite carols with tenor Charles Billingsley, the Irving Chorale, and an audience singalong. The show takes place at Irving Arts Center, served by bus route 229.

Espresso Nutcracker, presented by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, takes you to a winter wonderland with the Dallas Black Dance Academy students as they take to the stage for an enchanting performance. The whimsical reimagining of the classic happens at the Majestic Theatre. That’s just a few blocks from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.
