It’s a very DARTable weekend for music lovers, as well as sci-fi geeks. Check out where DART can take you.

Friday, June 7-Sunday, June 9

Fan Expo
is a sci-fi, horror, comics, anime, and gaming event featuring celebrity guests – including William Shatner, Danny Elfman, Marisa Tomei, Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, and many more. Catch it all weekend long at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Get there by taking the Red or Blue lines to Convention Center Station.

Friday, June 7

Deep Ellum First Fridays
celebrates the culture, art, music, food, shopping, and history of one of Dallas’ favorite neighborhoods. There’s an outdoor market, as well as local store promotions. The event takes place 5-8 p.m., and is easily accessible by the Green Line’s Baylor University Medical Center Station.

Emerald City Band, a 13-piece band that plays dance songs from the past and hits from the present, celebrates its 40th anniversary with a special concert at Klyde Warren Park. You can walk there from St. Paul Station on all four Dart Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Vampire Weekend comes to Irving in support of their new album, Only God was Above Us. See the indie rockers at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, walkable from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line. You can also take Bus Route 227.

Music Made Here is a concert series featuring live performances in the newly renovated Downtown Garland Square. Tonight’s headliner is Sonny Landreth, along with Jimmy Wallace and the Stratoblasters. In addition to the music, you can get bites from local restaurants. The event is kid-friendly, too. The square is walkable from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Tons of Money follows an unsuccessful, broke inventor with lots of creditors. He inherits a fortune from his brother. He fakes his own death (who hasn’t) and poses as his cousin to avoid paying his debts. Not surprisingly, complications arise. See the comedy through June 15 at Cox Playhouse. The venue is right across Haggard Park from the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.

Saturday, June 8

Summer Classical Music Series at Mockingbird Station brings free musical performances to the open-air amphitheater outside the Angelika Film Center. This Saturday night, experience The Belmark Trio. The performance space is right next to Mockingbird Station on the Red, Blue, and Orange lines.

Plano Symphony Orchestra presents the inaugural concerts of the Women Composer Series, featuring the world premiere of New Oceans by Dallas-based composer Olga Amelkina-Vera. Plano Symphony Orchestra Principal Violist, April Kondrat also performs Stacy Garrop’s Lo Yisa Goy. Celebrate women composers at the Addison Conference and Theatre Center, near Addison Transit Center. That’s served by DART Bus Routes 22, 200, 202, 227, 229, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, and 305.
