It’s a great weekend for German beer fans, theatergoers and hot air balloon enthusiasts. DART can take you to all that and more. Read on for this week’s DARTable happenings.

 

 

Thursday, Sept 19-Sunday, Sept. 22

Addison Oktoberfest gives you a taste of Bavaria with a Texas twist. Enjoy German culture, music and beer, along with polka bands and other traditional entertainers. It takes place over four days at Addison Circle Park. That’s a short walk from Addison Transit Center – served by DART Bus Routes 22, 200, 202, 227, 229, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, and 305.

Plano Balloon Festival is an all weekend-plus event with spectacular balloon glows, skydivers, hot air balloons, concerts, drone shows, fireworks, a kids’ fun zone, vendors, and food. You don’t have to pay to park, either: Festival buses run continuously from the Red Line’s Parker Road Station straight to the festival.

The Screwtape Letters is a fast-paced performance adapted from the C.S. Lewis masterpiece. It follows Screwtape, a senior tempter in Hell, as he schemes to capture the soul of an unsuspecting human on Earth. See the satirical classic at the Wyly Theatre, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Friday, Sept. 20'til Midnight at the Nasher presents live outdoor concerts, progressive tours and film screenings – along with the permanent collection and special exhibitions. There is also food and bar service.  Tonight, enjoy music by Brasuka, Toubab Krewe, and Lexi Moreno, followed by a screening of Yesterday. The Nasher Sculpture Garden is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Venus in Furs is a captivating play following the relationship between a playwright-director an enigmatic actress who is auditioning for a lead role. See it through Oct. 20 at Theatre Three, walkable from the M-Line trolley.

The Children’s Hour concerns two female teachers at a boarding school who are accused by a student of engaging in a romantic relationship. The two women navigate the truth and the lies as they fight to save their reputations and the school. See the performance through Oct. 5 at Irving Arts Center. You can get to the venue on Bus Route 229, departing from Dallas College North Lake Campus Station on the Orange Line.

Saturday, Sept. 21

Garland Fall Fest on the Square offers fun, food, and entertainment for all ages. There is live entertainment, a kids’ zone, a pumpkin patch photo op, and bowling with pumpkins. The Garland Square is an easy walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

Niki takes the stage in Irving. See the Indonesian singer-songwriter at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, walkable from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line. You can also take Bus Route 227.

The Brit Pack takes their audience on a journey through British classics including songs by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, The Who, Oasis, Radiohead, The Police, Amy Winehouse, and more. Check out the performance at the Eisemann Center, right across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.
