With the
XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi wrapping up this weekend, did you know DART has its own link to the Winter Olympics?
Pay a visit to the
DART headquarters in downtown Dallas and you'll find a torch used in the relay for the 2002 games held in
Salt Lake City.
The torch, which was one of many that made the journey from Elis, Greece to Salt Lake City, was given to DART's Board of Directors on June 18, 2002 by John Inglish, General Manager of the Utah Transit Authority.
It was given as a token of gratitude. DART loaned light rail vehicles and buses to the
Utah Transit Authority to use during the winter Olympics that year.
The vehicles were returned, and some even came back and were put into local service bearing the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics logo.
