Some receive certificates for high achievement, while others receive new titles or name recognition. For the DART and Dallas police officers who protect the city of Dallas each day, they received an honor that's as speedy as their agility and responsive thinking -- a race car. The new “Back the Blue” No. 83 Toyota Camry NASCAR honored the DART and Dallas Police departments and their fallen officers as NASCAR’s BK Racing teammate Matt DiBenedetto drove the car during the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday, Nov 6, showcasing a first-of-its-kind race car supporting police departments. ZAK Products, a Dallas-based automotive products and services company, unveiled the car’s design Nov 3 at a Toyota of Dallas event commemorating the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women in uniform who serve the city of Dallas. The event helped raise money for families of the fallen officers through the Assist the Officer Foundation and included remarks from Dallas Police Department Chief Pughes as well as ZAK Founder, Vic Keller. “People ask us all the time how we’re doing.” Pughes said. “Moving forward is tough and we’re not beyond it yet. But events like this and encouragement and support from the community make our jobs more rewarding.” The car’s design emblazons black, blue and white and incorporates the “Back the Blue” badge on the hood and doors as well as the names and badge numbers of the five fallen DART and Dallas police department officers who lost their lives on July 7. "The Nov 6 race is the largest venue for a spectator event in Dallas Fort-Worth, making it the best platform to showcase the city of Dallas and our outstanding police department on a national scale," Keller said.
