Seniors Save Big at the State Fair on Thursdays

Senior Days at the State Fair
Posted on Sep 29, 2022 by DART Daily

The State Fair of Texas® is a terrific way to spend time with friends or family, whether you’re enjoying a live show, sampling some of the delicious, deep-fried food, or exploring the various exhibit halls. Big Tex® will greet you with a warm “howdy” as you make your way through the Fair, which runs through Oct. 23, 2022.

Every Thursday – this year on Oct. 6, 13, and 20 – is Senior Day. Senior citizens age 60 and older receive half-price admission to the Fair, for ONLY $5.

For others in your group, you can find a State Fair ticket discount code when you download and open the free DART GoPass® app. Save $5 off admission Monday-Friday and $7 on Saturday and Sunday!

Once you at the park, you can enjoy Thrifty Thursdays presented by Cricket Wireless. Guests can save while snacking as participating food vendors offer one of their signature menu items at a reduced price, ranging from mini versions to regular-size items.

SENIORS CAN RIDE DART FOR LESS

DART is the easiest way to get to the State Fair of Texas. Plus, seniors at 65+ ride DART at half the cost with a DART-issued Senior Photo ID or a Medicare card. A DART Senior Photo ID lets you prove you qualify for reduced transit fares without the risk of losing your Medicare card.

You may obtain a DART ID by visiting DARTmart, located on the Akard Street side of DART Headquarters, 1401 Pacific Ave., at Akard Station. DARTmart is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 pm. You must bring proof of age such as a driver's license, passport or other substantiating documentation. There is a $2 fee to cover the cost of the photo. A DARTmart staff member will take your picture and create your DART Senior Photo ID card on the spot. You also can apply online at DART.org/reduced.

TAKE THE GREEN LINE

The Green Line takes you to Fair Park Station, right at the main gate to the Fair. If the station you board at isn’t on the Green Line, you can transfer between light rail lines at many of the stations in downtown Dallas. If you ride the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) or DCTA A-train, you’re in luck there, too. Transfers are a snap since both connect directly to the Green Line at Victory Station. Check out the DART Rail System Map to explore transfer points.

Park and Ride You can park for free at any of DART’s Park & Ride lots. To find the location closest to you, visit DART.org/parking for a list of DART Rail Stations that have on-site parking.

Enjoy Level Boarding The center car of every DART Rail vehicle is a low-floor section that offers level boarding with the rail platform. DART’s buses also have low-floor sections and are equipped with ramps that deploy for level boarding from the curb.
