This is an ongoing series that will keep you informed about the goings-on in the transit industry. Hopefully, it will provide little perspective on the larger environment in which DART operates.

This week: Richardson looks forward to developing land around Arapaho Center Station; Miami-Dade County, Fla., breaks ground on an ambitious new bus corridor; and the Chicago Transit Authority unveils an exciting new station design. Hop on board for the news from transit-land:

Big developments in Richardson

The Richardson City Council has voted unanimously to undertake extensive development around DART Rail as part of plans for the Richardson Innovation Quarter (The IQ). According to Community Impact:

The process to begin redeveloping around Arapaho Center Station in Richardson is now underway. […] No specifics on how the city hopes to renovate the area were released, but city officials said the large parking lot across from the Dallas Area Rapid Transit station is a primary focus.

Arapaho Center Station is currently served by the Red Line, Orange Line, and five bus routes. The future Silver Line will stop only two stations away, at CityLine/Bush Station, as it makes it way between Shiloh Road in East Plano and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, providing future transit options to those in The IQ.

Rapid developments in Miami

In Southern Florida, Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works is moving ahead on a new bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor that will serve multiple routes. Mass Transit Magazine breaks down the specifics:

The bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor will parallel US-1, be equipped with signal preemption and offer a 60-minute ride between Homestead and Downtown Miami. The corridor includes 14 new state-of-the-art stations that will serve both BRT and all-stop routes, as well as 16 additional stops for the all-stop route on the South Dade TransitWay.
