DART and Clean Energy Fuels are teaming to tell the story of how we're making North Texas air cleaner. We're working together on a new online campaign to raise awareness of the value of natural gas as a transit fuel. The campaign begins with a new video featuring DART President/Executive Director Gary Thomas and Clean Energy co-founder Boone Pickens.
DART began converting its entire fleet of diesel and liquefied natural gas buses to CNG when it introduced its new NABI buses in January 2013. DART is adding, on average, five new CNG buses every week to accomplish its goal of complete conversion by the end of 2015.
Clean Energy Fuels is helping by providing the CNG fueling stations DART relies on to keep its fleet running every day of the year.
The response to the new CNG buses has been overwhelmingly positive. Customers appreciate the quieter buses. Non-riders are thankful for reduction in fumes and DART bus operators are just glad to not go home smelling of diesel.
DART's use of CNG and collaboration with Clean Energy Fuels will save local taxpayers $120 million over the next 10 years.
