Friday, April 29-Sunday, May 1 2022 DIFF at Alamo Draft House Cinema - Cedars

Dallas International Guitar Festival brings musicians, fans, and collectors together for a weekend celebrating all things guitar. Buy, sell, trade, or simply check out thousands of new and vintage guitars – along with basses, banjos, mandolins, and gear. There will be live music, as well, as this annual extravaganza takes over Dallas Market Hall. The event center is a short walk from Market Center Station on the Green and Orange lines, or Medical/Market Center Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), and Bus Route 230 stops in front of the building The TRE doesn’t run on Sundays.

2022 DIFF Spring Preview from the Dallas International Film Festival features film premieres, festival favorites, and upcoming new releases from around the world. Get a sneak peek at the festival, which will take place this fall. Motion picture fans should head to the Alamo Drafthouse in the Cedars, a short walk from either Cedars Station or Convention Center Station, both on the Red and Blue lines.

Friday, April 29 Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble

Changing Perspectives Block Party: A Cultural Festival is an annual shindig in the Dallas Arts District. The event features live music, Afro-Caribbean stilts dancers, and Dallas’ own Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble. Their performance combines dance, textile sculpture, ritual, and improvisational interactions with the audience. There also are plenty of family-friendly activities. Check out the festival at Sammons Park, in the heart of the Dallas Arts District – a few blocks from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Wait Until Dark is the Garland Civic Theatre’s latest production. The play takes place in 1940s Greenwich Village, where a blind housewife finds herself in peril. Her blindness just might be the key to escaping her tormentors, but we’ll just have to – you guessed it – wait until dark to find out. See this classic thriller through May 15 at the Granville Arts Center, which is right next to the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats bring their chart-topping, Americana-tinged R&B to the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. Take the Orange Line to Irving Convention Center Station and walk or take Bus Route 227 to the venue.

Saturday, April 30 Best Buddies Friendship Walk

Best Buddies Friendship Walk is the leading walk in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (also known as IDD). This event is one of the largest walks of its kind, with over 40,000 walkers nationwide every year. This year’s walk will be held at Farmers Branch Historical Park, just a short walk from Farmers Branch Station on DART’s Green Line.

Orígenes/Origins is a workshop production that invites audiences to participate in the development of a new play. The work itself focuses on youth immigration; the performance is mostly in Spanish with English supertitles. Afterward, interact with the actors and creators to help flesh out the play. The creative experience takes place at the Latino Cultural Center, right down the street from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.

An Evening with Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra of Houston, featuring accompanist and educator Billie K. Roberts, honors the great Black composer and musician with a rousing performance at the African American Museum. The venue is in Fair Park, a short walk from Fair Park Station on the Green Line.

Sunday, May 1

Let’s Dance! is a concert of dance music presented by the brass and percussion sections of The Plano Symphony. You’ll hear music from Encanto, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, The Little Mermaid, and more. The band is joined on stage by dancers from the McLane School, who will introduce families to Irish dance in an interactive performance. There are two shows at Plano’s Courtyard Theater, located right across Haggard Park from the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.
