Music in the great outdoors is the theme for the weekend – local acts are filling the air with tunes from Irving to Richardson, and you can even rock out in close proximity to tigers. Pull up your GoPass® app or whip out your GoPass Tap card, break out your dancing shoes and jump on the DART System to these fun events. 

Friday, May 10

Friday Night Trivia is a free event by Plano Stages. Quick question: Who played drums on the Beatles’ “The Ballad of John and Yoko”? If you answered Paul McCartney, then you just may win a trophy at tonight’s Beatles-themed installment. Even if you didn’t, you may still have a chance – we just handed you that one, after all – and there’s no entry fee. Everybody knows a Beatles geek or two (raises hand), so round a team up and head to McCall Plaza, about a block from the platform of the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station. The Fillmore Pub will be on hand, so you can enjoy an adult beverage. 

Irving Concert Series is going strong over at Whistlestop Plaza, which, as the name implies, is right next to a rail station. (That would be Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express.) Tonight, party down with Party Machine, a high-energy outfit with an engaging stage show and a repertoire ranging from Sinatra, to classic rock, to current hits.

CityLine Live is an ongoing event featuring live music under the stars at the new-urban development, located on the Red Line at CityLine/Bush Station. From 6-9 p.m., Alex Blair brings her mix of R&B, soul and pop to the plaza, where you can enjoy the tunes from one of several restaurant patios, if you choose. She’s the lead singer of the band BLAYR, and Dallas Observer recently named her as one of the “Artists to Watch” in 2019. 

Dallas Zoo Safari Nights is a cool concept: Some of North Texas’ best musical acts play for you on the shady Cat Green. It’s sure to be a wild time when The Stoneleighs take the stage. Each gig, this Rolling Stones tribute band recreates the sound and feel of a specific concert the Stones played – note-for-note. What are the odds this one will include “Beast of Burden”? Find out by taking the Red Line to Dallas Zoo Station. The show starts at 7p.m.; it’s included with zoo admission.

“Nunsense” gets its last performance at today’s matinee at the Granville Arts Center. The classic musical comedy chronicles the efforts of Sister Julia, who has accidentally poisoned 52 of her fellow sisters. How will she raise money for all the burials? Put on a musical, of course! Get to the production by Garland Civic Theatre by taking the Blue Line to Downtown Garland Station; the venue is right next door. 

The Art of the Brick features intriguing works of art constructed using only LEGO® bricks. The critically acclaimed traveling exhibition at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science boasts the world's largest and most elaborate display of its kind. Created by renowned artist Nathan Sawaya, the exhibition includes both original pieces and reimagined versions of famous masterpieces, such as Van Gogh's Starry Night. There are also plenty of hands-on experiences, including building challenges and games. The Perot Museum is about a 10-minute walk from Victory Station on both the Green Line and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

DART is making major improvements. To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements began March 30 and will last for roughly six months. During that time, DART Rail in Downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District and West End stations. Bus bridges will be in operation.
