Live music, cultural celebrations and a captivating dance performance are all in the cards for the DART rider this weekend.
Throw in the first day of a cool farmers market and a new outdoor event that will run all season, and you’ve got a few well-rounded, DARTable days in store.
Thursday, May 16
Rowlett Farmers Market kicks off for the season today and runs every Thursday through Sept. 9. The dusk market takes place from 5-9 p.m. at the Village Green in Rowlett. Buy Texas-grown produce, listen to live music and enjoy the other cool stuff this community event has to offer. You’ll find it a short walk from Downtown Rowlett Station on the Blue Line.
Friday, May 17
Spring Celebration is Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s way of commemorating the season. Award-winning choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie has created an all-new work just for the occasion. Tonight through Sunday, the program also features the amazing modern dance of Ballet Hispánico. Celebrate spring at the Wyly Theatre, about a 9-minute walk from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. The M-Line Trolley also drops you off three blocks away.
Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival is another all-weekend event where fun flourishes. Check out a bouquet of musical acts, as well as a profusion of exhibitors, vendors, kid's activities and other stuff. This year's headliners are Good Charlotte, Neon Trees and Quiet Riot. It all happens at Galatyn Park Urban Center, directly adjacent to the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station in Richardson.
Saturday, May 18
Addison After Dark is a new event that will take place the third Saturday of every month. Live music, movies, food trucks – what more do you need? How about this: The event in Addison Circle Park is free. Each month, the evening will be themed; tonight is a “Patriotic Party.” A Sherman Tank will even kick off the evening by firing its gun. At 7:15, John Christopher Davis & The Lone Star Attitude Band perform, and there will be a 9 p.m. screening of Top Gun. The park is a short walk from Addison Transit Center, served by numerous buses.
Sunday, May 19
DFW Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival is nothing if not spectacular. Kite flying, dragon boat races, Asian dance performances, lion and dragon dances, and lots of Asian cuisine make for a colorful (and free) event. It happens from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Irving’s Lake Carolyn, near Las Colinas Urban Center Station on the Orange Line.
Snap 151 is a “photo studio pop-up” – a whimsical space with eye-catching colors, larger-than-life props and other interactive elements. Today is your last day to spice up your Instagram feed with neon, murals, streamers, sparkles and the like. Head to Mockingbird on the Red, Blue and Orange lines. The pop-up is in the namesake development next door, not far from the Urban Outfitters.

DART is making major improvements. To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements began March 30 and will last for roughly six months. During that time, DART Rail in Downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District and West End stations. Bus bridges will be in operation. DART.org/plus
