There are some great events lined up to celebrate the occasion, plus a bunch of other stuff. Most of the weekend’s happenings are outdoors, which suits the season perfectly. Get on board for these DARTable events. 

Thursday, May 23

Texas Lottery Live is a series featuring local, regional and national talent in the square adjacent to the Toyota Music Factory. There is an eclectic mix of musical styles – funk, blues, R&B, rock and pop. Tonight, you’ll get them all in one place, when singer-songwriter Marc Broussard takes to the stage with his “Bayou Soul.” He blends all of the above with a distinctly Southern feel. You can get there by taking the Orange Line to Irving Convention Center Station, then walking about nine or ten minutes. The performance begins at 7 p.m. 

Friday, May 24

Bright Star keeps the Southern feeling going. The musical at The Firehouse Theater tells a sweeping tale that takes place in the American South of the 1920s and '40s. Literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, and he awakens her longing for the child she lost. An ensemble of dancers and musicians propel this uplifting story. The play runs through June 9; the venue is across the street from Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line 

Saturday, May 25

Memorial Day Ceremony Featuring Touch-a-Truck is the city of Rowlett's way of honoring generations of men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The ceremony takes place at The Village of Rowlett Downtown, a short walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Rowlett Station. If there is inclement weather, the event will be moved to May 27.

CityLine Live is a music series in one of North Texas’ newest transit villages. This evening is the second-to-last show of the season. From 6-9 p.m., Kirk Holloway performs on the plaza. Take out a table on one of the many nearby restaurant patios from which you can hear his classic Texas twang. You can also enjoy the festivities and food in the plaza proper; you might want to bring a lawn chair. Just follow Holloway’s classic Texas twang from CityLine/Bush Station on the Red Line.

Memorial Day Music Fest features multiple stages at Klyde Warren Park. There will be something for all music lovers - rock, jazz, country and more. Between performances, explore vendor booths, play in the family game zone, get your face painted – and, just as you would hope, avail yourself of the numerous food trucks the park is known for. Klyde Warren Park is accessible by the M-Line Trolley. You also can walk about 10 minutes from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. 

Berthe Morisot, Woman Impressionist is an international exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art that closes after today. Dedicated to a founding French Impressionist, this reevaluation of Morisot's legacy is the first American presentation of her work in more than 30 years. It features approximately 60 paintings from public and private collections from around the world. The Dallas Museum of Art is about a 6-minute walk from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines. 

Miss Saigon is a perennial audience favorite that gets its last performance at today’s matinee. The story follows a young Vietnamese woman whose life is changed when she meets an American G.I.  Dallas Summer Musicals’ production is full of spectacle and features a cast of 42. Catch it at the Music Hall at Fair Park, just a few hundred feet from the Green Line’s Fair Park Station.

DART is making major improvements. To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements are under way and will continue until September. During that time, DART Rail in Downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District and West End stations. Bus bridges will be in operation. DART.org/plus
