With cold weather settling in, this weekend is all about indoor performances. Comedy, musicals, and films are all DARTable, so hop on board and see a show!
Thursday, Jan. 20-Saturday, Jan. 22
Heather McMahan, comedian and self-described “high-functioning hot mess,” brings her Farewell Tour (her first, and possibly last, that is) to the Majestic Theatre. The venue is just a couple of blocks from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.
Friday, Jan. 21
Hadestowntakes two tales from Greek mythology and weaves them into a journey to hell (well, Hades) and back. A vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers bring the Tony Award-winning musical to life through Jan. 10 at the Winspear Opera House in the AT&T Performing Arts District. You can get to the theater by walking a few blocks from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.
Saturday, Jan. 22-Sunday, Jan. 23
KidFilm® Family Festival, presented by the USA Film Festival, is the oldest and largest children’s film festival in the country. This year’s offerings focus on diversity, equality, family and friendship. Both live-action and animated features are abundant, and many will appeal to audiences of all ages. Catch it at the Angelika Film Center, right across from the upper-level bus bays at SMU/Mockingbird Station on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.
Aladdin is a familiar story to many, and Plano Metropolitan Ballet’s production of the fairytale has all the mystery, thrill and beauty you would expect from the classic story. Today’s two performances are the last of the run at the Courtyard Theatre, right across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.
Sunday, Jan. 23
Anna in the Tropics takes place in a 1929 Florida cigar factory. “Lectors” read newspapers, poetry, and novels to the workers. When one of those novels is Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, unexpected passions are inflamed, with repercussions in the listeners’ personal lives. See the Pulitzer® Prize-winning play at the Irving Arts Center. You can get to the venue on Bus Route 401, which departs from the Orange Line’s Dallas College North Lake Campus Station.
