Holidays at Heritage features free family friendly events in Downtown Irving designed to get everyone in the holiday spirit. On Friday, enjoy on-site food vendors and a 6:45 p.m. screening of The Polar Express. On Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Santa stops by the gazebo for a visit, including photo opportunities; you’ll also find “carol-oke,” crafts, cookie decorating, trackless train rides, and holiday-themed bounce houses. The celebrations are all at Heritage Park, a very short walk from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Presents Home Alone in Concert features renowned composer John Williams’ score to the comedy classic. It is performed live to a screening of the beloved film. Catch the family-friendly holiday fun at the Meyerson Symphony Center, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines

The Nutcracker receives a distinctly Dallas production from Ballet North Texas. The familiar holiday favorite has more than 150 unique costumes, and the 2 pm performance on Saturday, Dec. 17, is sensory-friendly. See the performance at Moody Performance Hall, a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. 

Saturday, Dec. 17-Sunday, Dec. 18

The Nutcracker also gets a Richardson production from Tuzer Ballet. The choreography is especially advanced in this production, and Ukrainian-born dancer Vsevolod “Seva” Maevsky is the guest principal solo. Performances happen at the Eisemann Center, just across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.

Saturday, Dec. 17

Irving Frost Half Marathon is winter-themed and welcomes all fitness levels. In addition to the half marathon, there are 5K and 10K runs. All of the races take place through Las Colinas, and start/end at Toyota Music Factory. The post-race celebration features food, drinks, live music, and more. Get to start of the race by taking the Orange Line to Irving Convention Center Station; the venue is walkable from there. You can also take Bus Route 227 to the venue. 

Sunday, Dec. 18

Ebenezer Scrooge is Pocket Sandwich Theatre’s take on the age-old holiday favorite. The tale of redemption and forgiveness captures the holiday spirit for the whole family. The theater’s new location is right on the square in Historic Downtown Carrollton. You can see the production through Dec. 23, a short walk from the Green Line’s Downtown Carrollton Station.

Skating Under the Stars features an outdoor ice-skating rink located outside the StarCenter in Farmers Branch. The unique opportunity to skate outdoors in Texas runs until January. The rink is a short walk from Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line.

Crystal City 1969 gets its last performance today. The play is based on the true story of Mexican American students in South Texas who walked out of their school and into civil rights history. See it at the Latino Cultural Center, just a couple of blocks from Deep Ellum Station on the Green Line.
