Main Street Arts Fest

The DARTable weekend is overflowing with great events, ranging from a film festival to live music – and lots of art. Dive in and see where DART can take you.

 

Through April 26

USA Film Festival features new films, tributes to iconic actors and filmmakers (including Martin Sheen) and short film showcases. There is also a 40th anniversary screening of Footloose with the screenwriter in attendance, and much more. The main part of the festival takes place through Sunday, April 21, with a special tribute to Billy Dee Williams happening on April 26. All the festivities are happening at the Angelika Film Center Dallas, located next door to Mockingbird Station on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.

 

Thursday, April 18-Saturday, April 20

10-Minute Comedies is a festival of 10-minute comedies. Rover Dramawerks selected 11 mini-plays out of more than 250 submissions from around the world. See the comedies at the Cox Playhouse, just across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

Thursday, April 18-Sunday, April 21

Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival
runs all weekend in a nine-block area of Downtown Fort Worth. Main Street is lined with food, music and more than 200 artists. The action happens between Weatherford and 9th streets. The festival is walkable from Fort Worth Central Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), which departs from Union and Victory stations. The TRE has special service on Sunday.

Diosa is an experimental evening of theatre that explores both the sacred and the absurd. See the performances at the Latino Cultural Center, a very short walk from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.

Friday, April 19

Music On Main takes place in Irving’s Heritage Park each Friday evening in April. You can grab dinner before the show from one of several food vendors, or eat at one of the restaurants in the Heritage District. This Friday night, Watusi takes the stage with reggae/worldbeat music and plenty of positive vibes. The park is a couple of blocks from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Til Midnight at the Nasher - July 2023’til Midnight at the Nasher presents live outdoor concerts and film screenings. You can also take tours and view the permanent collection and special exhibitions. You’ll find bar service and food for purchase, as well. Tonight, Golden Dawn Arkestra performs, followed by a screening of Selena. The Nasher Sculpture Center is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Satchmo at the Waldorf is a one-man, three-character play in which the same actor portrays jazz great Louis Armstrong, his manager, and Miles Davis. The action takes place in 1971, backstage at the Empire Room of New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, just four months before the trumpeter’s death. See it through April 28 at WaterTower Theatre. The venue is walkable from Addison Transit Center – served by DART Bus Routes 22, 200, 202, 227, 229, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, and 305.

Friday, April 19-Saturday, April 20

Rising Excellence features Dallas Black Dance Theatre's innovative choreography and performances by some of the most talented emerging artists in the field. Experience the performance at Moody Performance Hall in the Dallas Arts District, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

 

Saturday, April 20-Sunday, April 21

Southwest Black Art Show features fine art by nearly 20 artists of African and African American descent. It showcases original paintings, drawings, printmaking, photography, sculptures, jewelry, and more. The event also presents workshops for aspiring art collectors, as well as hands-on activities for families and children. The art show happens at the African American Museum, very near Fair Park Station on the Green Line.

Sunday, April 21

Plano Community Band presents an afternoon of classic wind band music. Enjoy the performance at the Eisemann Center, right across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.
