Friday, May 3
Deep Ellum First Fridays celebrates the culture, art, music, food, shopping, and history of one of Dallas’ favorite neighborhoods. There’s an outdoor market, as well as local store promotions. The event takes place 5-8 p.m., and is easily accessible by the Green Line’s Baylor University Medical Center Station.

Music Made Here is a concert series featuring live performances in the newly renovated Downtown Garland Square. Tonight’s headliner is Alianza Nortena, a Grammy-nominated group with roots in Chihuahua, Mexico, renowned for its dynamic Norteño Sax sound. Along with the music, you can get bites from local restaurants. The event is kid-friendly, too. The square is walkable from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

The Persians is an ancient Greek tragedy that’s unique in that it dramatized recent history, rather than mythical heroes. It portrays the Battle of Salmis, which had only happened eight years before the play’s premiere in 472 B.C. The action centers on the decline of the Persian Empire. Catch Aeschylus’ classic through May 26 at Undermain Theatre, walkable from the Green Line’s Baylor University Medical Center Station.

On Golden Pond is best known as a 1981 film starring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn, but it was a play first. It tells the story of an elderly couple who return to their summer home for the 48th year. Don't miss this show running through May 18 at Irving Arts Center, accessible by Bus Route 229.

Patton Oswalt has had award-winning comedy specials, memorable film roles, and guest appearances on TV shows such as Parks and Recreation. Tonight, he brings his Effervescent Tour to the Majestic Theatre. The venue is only a few blocks from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.

The Dallas International Guitar Festival is one of the largest and oldest in the world, with musicians, fans and collectors coming together to celebrate all things guitar. Buy, sell, trade, or just browse many thousands of new and vintage guitars, basses, amps, banjos, mandolins, effects pedals, etc. There are also more than 50 performances on four stages. The festival takes place all weekend long at Dallas Market Hall. To get there, take the Green or Orange line to Market Center Station; you can walk the half-mile to Market Hall. You can also take Bus Route 230, which departs from the East Transfer Center and drops you off right in front of Market Hall.

Plano AsiaFest showcases the rich cultures of Asia, with tons of cultural demonstrations, performances, and vendors. There’s music, a fashion show, and lots of food from throughout Asia. It’s a fun, engaging, family-friendly event at Haggard Park, right next to Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.
