May the 4th Be With You celebrates all things Star Wars. Bring your lightsabers and come in costume to enjoy space-themed adventures, gaming experiences, photo opportunities, crafts, and laser tag. Test your skills in an extreme 35-foot interactive laser tag arena. Strike a memorable pose at various photo opportunities around the Square and be sure to stay for the costume contest at 7 p.m. Food vendors will be on hand, too. The festivities happen in Historic Downtown Carrollton, a few blocks from Downtown Carrollton Station on the Green Line.

Friday, May 5-Saturday, May 6

CityLine Live is a live-music series in the plaza at Richardson’s CityLine that takes place every Friday and Saturday through April and May. There are nearby restaurant patios perfect for enjoying the show, or you can get your dinner and drinks to go. On Friday evening, hear the mariachi stylings of Mariachi Arraigo de America; on Saturday, rock out with Kelsi Kee. Performances start at 6 p.m. Take the Red Line to CityLine/Bush Station.

Dallas International Guitar Festival joins musicians, fans and collectors for the largest and oldest guitar show in the world. Buy, sell, trade, or browse among thousands of new and vintage guitars. There are also banjos, mandolins, and tons of gear. More than 50 local, regional and national bands will perform on four stages – including headliners such as Eric Johnson and Orianthi. It all happens at Dallas Market Hall, served by Bus Route 230 departing from Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Station. The venue is also a 10-minute walk from Market Center Station on the Green and Orange lines.

The Light in the Piazza follows a strong-willed 1950s housewife who takes her daughter on vacation in Italy. Love is in the air when the daughter is swept off her feet, and both must deal with buried secrets and culture clash. The play opens tonight and runs through May 20 at the Irving Arts Center. That’s served by Bus Route 229, departing from Dallas College North Lake Campus Station on the Orange Line.

The Cinco de Mayo Silent Disco Fiesta invites you to dance the night away to Latin music. That means ranchera, mariachi, salsa, and many other styles will enliven Sammons Park in the heart of the Dallas Arts District. You can walk to the venue from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines; it’s only a block or two from the M-Line trolley.

Saturday, May 6

The Etsy Dallas Spring Bash features more than 70 artists offering unique handmade wares, including original art, artisanal goods, jewelry, and more. The shopping takes place at Gilley’s Dallas, walkable from Cedars Station on the red and blue lines.

Plano AsiaFest 2023 returns to the Downtown Plano Arts District. This event celebrates the many cultures of Asia with numerous cultural demonstrations, performances, food, and more. Learn about Asian languages, food and martial arts. Check out the flowing robes, traditional costumes and colorful saris at the Asia Fashion Show. There’s all that and more on Saturday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Haggard Park. That’s next to Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

Later that evening, Salt the Rim in McCall Plaza in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. The Fillmore Pub has created four different craft margarita recipes that will go head-to-head during the tasting competition. Tasting times are 6 p.m and 8 p.m. You can also enjoy live music and dance performances on the stage. McCall Plaza is just across the street from the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station. 

Family Weekends AAPI Celebration is a free party in Sammons Park on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration includes Asian food trucks, vendors, local artists, musical and dance performances, and cultural demonstrations. The park is in the heart of the Dallas Arts District, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines. It’s a block from the M-Line trolley.

The AT&T Discovery District is hosting AAPI Celebrations on May 6 at 11 a.m. Dive into the rich and diverse cultures of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander heritage at the AT&T Discovery District! Join the AT&T Discover District on Saturday for their 2nd annual celebration filled with fascinating performances, delicious food specials, and an eclectic mix of beats by our live DJ. The AT&T Discovery District is a short walk down Akard Street from Akard Station on all four light rail lines.
