It’s a big weekend in North Texas. That’s because The State Fair of Texas opens on Friday, and runs through Oct. 20. Get ready for 24 days of Big Tex, corny dogs, and Midway rides. Plus tons more, of course, ranging from butter sculptures to pig races to performances from big-time musicians. DART takes you straight to the fun. The Green Line drops you off right at the Main Gate (Fair Park Station) or a couple of blocks from Gate 6 near the Cotton Bowl (MLK, Jr. Station).

There are lots of other DARTable options, as well. Check out where DART can take you this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 27-Monday, Sept. 29

Company is a new production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s groundbreaking musical comedy. A 35-year-old woman discovers the pitfalls of being single, being married, and being alive in the 21st-century. It’s got the terrific music that Sondheim is famous for. See the performance at the Winspear Opera House walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Friday, Sept. 27

Turtle Creek Chorale presents a celebration of the music of the ‘90s. And not just the 1990s - there will be pieces from 1790, 1890, etc., featuring Johann Sebastian Bach, Alanis Morissette, and more. See it at Moody Performance Hall, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line trolley.

Cirque Du Soleil pays tribute to country music in the troupe’s new show, Songblazers. Of course, there will be dazzling acrobatics, aerial acts, and displays of strength. See it through Oct. 20 at the Music Hall at Fair Park, walkable from the Green Line’s Fair Park Station. Your ticket includes admission to the State Fair of Texas.

See Me is the world premiere of an immersive theatrical experience. The production is inspired by the stories of young people from across North Texas, bringing their voices to life using cutting edge technology, projections and holograms to explore how existing in a hyper-connected world impacts the human condition. Catch it through Oct. 5 at the Eisemann Center, just across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.

International Latinidades Festival showcases highlights of Cara Mía Theatre’s 2024-2025 season. There are 11 productions, including live theater, dance, music and poetry, with performers coming from throughout the world. Catch the performance through Oct. 13 at the Latino Cultural Center. That’s right down the street from Deep Ellum Station on the Green Line.
