Happy New Year! As we move further into 2021, DART is excited for opportunities to better serve you and our surrounding community. Here are five things to look forward to in 2021.

1.

Contactless Credit Card and Mobile Payment Options

DART is testing contactless credit card and mobile app payment options. The agency hopes to introduce the new payment methods to all riders in spring 2021.

If you would like to volunteer to help test our system as you ride and give us feedback, visit DART.org/Contactless to learn more.

2.

Staying Informed and Safe

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, DART launched a campaign that addressed customers' most frequently asked questions and encouraged riders to "Ask DART.” As, we head into 2021, DART will continue to work to keep you informed on our services and efforts. 3.

Longer Trains on the Red and Blue Line

DART's Red and Blue Line Platform Extension project is underway. Construction began in spring 2019, and DART anticipates finishing the project in late 2021.

Once complete, all of DART's light rail stations would be able to accommodate longer, three-car trains. The project aims to:

  • Increase capacity on the Red and Blue lines, meaning more available seats and fewer passengers standing at any given time.
  • Allow DART to operate three-care trains on any rail line during peak hours or special events when trains see the most crowding.
  • Create more level-boarding areas, making it easier to get on and off the train, especially for those with mobility issues.

4.

On-Demand Service in the International Inland Port of Dallas

The Inland Port Connect GoLink service is an on-demand service that began in fall 2020 . The Southern Dallas County Inland Port Transportation Management Association (IPTMA) provides the service and aims to connect workers and businesses to transportation solutions in the Inland Port area.

To access the Inland Port Connect GoLink service in 2021, as well as the rider subsidy program, businesses must join the IPTMA. Learn more about joining the IPTMA at www.inlandport.org.

5.

Silver Line Construction

Construction is beginning on the 26-mile Silver Line Regional Rail Project between Plano and DFW Airport. With 10 new stations planned across the alignment, the Silver Line is scheduled to begin service in early 2023.

Remember, DART invites residents to view the betterments/sound wall mock-ups now available across the Silver Line alignment. The mock-up walls are available through Friday, January 29, 2021.
