Ride DART to the Total Eclipse of the Sun

On Monday, April 8, Dallas will be squarely in the path of what’s become known as the Great North American Eclipse. The eclipse will begin at 12:23 p.m., with the “totality” occurring between 1:40 and 1:44 p.m. By 3:02 p.m., the eclipse will be over.

DART's service area is right in its path, so it only makes sense that lots of great viewing events are happening.

One of the biggest: The Sun, Moon, and You Total Solar Eclipse Event at Fair Park from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Gates open at 8:30 a.m.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the Dallas Cotton Bowl® Stadium have joined forces to create a one-of-a-kind viewing of this unforgettable experience. Witness history while enjoying special guest Neil deGrasse Tyson, educational entertainment from PBS series Ready, Jet, Go!™, live talks and presentations, and more. The venue is accessible by the Green Line's Fair Park Station.

Solar Eclipse Watch Party
AT&T Discovery District

10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The AT&T Discovery District has events and activities for the entire family. From eclipse-themed food and drinks, to the “solar stroll,” to panels featuring speakers from NASA and AT&T, the event promises to be a fun and educational way to view the eclipse. The first 4,000 guests will receive complimentary, high-quality solar viewing glasses. Other activities take place the entire weened leading up to the eclipse; follow the link above for details. The Discovery District is easily walkable from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines.

 

Great North American Eclipse
Klyde Warren Park

11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Programing presented by the Perot Museum of Nature and Science includes the interactive TECH Truck, a panel discussion with astronomers from the Carnegie Institution for Science, and complimentary viewing glasses. Live music from Central Standard Band and other family friendly activities will be available. As you would expect from Klyde Warren Park, there are plenty of food trucks and lots of restaurants in the surrounding area. The event is presented by Choctaw Casinos & Resorts. The park is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.

 

Solar Eclipse Weekend
Main Street Garden

10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Downtown Dallas Inc., in partnership with The Dallas Morning News, hosts a lunchtime watching event complete with live music, food trucks, family friendly activities, shopping, an interactive art installation and complimentary eclipse glasses (limited quantity). There are additional festivities all weekend long; click the link to find out more. Main Street Garden is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.


Solarbration

Omni Hotel (Pegasus Lawn)

11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

This unforgettable eclipse watch party features music by DJ 13lackBeard, delicious food, themed treats, and a pop-up from Casamigos tequila. Solar eclipse glasses are available while supplies last. The Omni is served by Convention Center Station on the Red and Blue lines. It’s also a short walk from EBJ Union Station, served by the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Eclipsed in Dallas: A Solar Eclipse Celebration at Reunion Tower
10:00 a.m.-2 p.m.

Visitors can see the total solar eclipse from the Reunion Tower lawn. Food will be available from Corn Dog with No Name, Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe, and the North Park Chick-fil-A. NBC 5 will be broadcasting live broadcast, featuring a presentation from meteorologists. The first 1,000 people will receive complimentary solar eclipse glasses and vouchers to visit the GeO-Deck following the eclipse. Reunion Arena is accessible from EBJ Union Station on the Red and Blue lines, as well as the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Solar Eclipse Part at the The Lunar Light: Discovery
5743 LBJ Freeway (the former Valley View Mall site)
1:15 p.m.-9:15 p.m.

The Lunar Light: Discovery hosts an eclipse party in an expansive open space. You can bring your own viewing glasses or purchase them onsite. The Officers’ Club will be open for drinks and food. Afterward, stick around for the interactive, space-themed entertainment the organization is known for. You can get to the site on DART Bus routes 22 and 237.


Total Eclipse of the Park

Addison Circle Park  

10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Day-long activities include a morning yoga session, live music by Extended Play, and fun yard games. The headliner, of course, is the total solar eclipse. The park is walkable from Addison Transit Center – served by DART Bus Routes 22, 200, 202, 227, 229, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, and 305.

Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake

12 p.m.-2 p.m.

Enjoy outdoor games and crafts for children. Bring your own blankets or chairs and lunch. A snack of popcorn and bottled water will be available while supplies last, and a limited number of solar viewers will be available on a first come, first served basis. You can get to the library on Bus Route 233; the site is about a third of a mile away.


Total Eclipse of the Square

Downtown Garland Square

11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Enjoy a presentation from Garland ISD Planetarium Director Charlie Ruiz, activities, games, and of course, the eclipse – all from the revamped Downtown Garland Square. Participating restaurants on the square are offering $10 lunches, and Up the Creek provides the live music. Eclipse viewing glasses are available while supplies last. The Downtown Garland Square is a short walk from Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.

Big D Eclipse at Dallas College
Numerous locations

Dallas College is hosting events this upcoming school year for students and the community at large to witness the eclipse. All seven campuses across Dallas County will host viewing events with special glasses available. The following are DARTable:

  • Brookhaven: Parking Lot P3. Bus Route 227.
  • El Centro: Founder’s Plaza. West End Station on all four DART Rail lines.
  • Mountain View: Grass field at Knoxville Road and Illinois Ave.  Bus routes 104, 223.
  • North Lake: Sports Complex Parking Lot. North Lake College Station on the Orange Line.
  • Richland: Parking Lot C. Bus Route 17.
