Downtown Garland offers you multiple reasons to staycation there this summer and beyond, from live music to free movies to an outdoor market.

The district centers around a historical square that’s located within a few blocks of the namesake light rail station on DART’s Blue Line.

Plus, now through Aug. 10, DART is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on a Local Day Pass. Limited quantities are available. Just use the code DARTABLESTAYCATION at checkout on DART’s free GoPass app.

Here are some DARTable events and activities to explore in Downtown Garland:

 

Band Together on the Square Band Together on the Square Concert Series
Band Together on the Square Concert Series is a diverse musical experience that will give you all the summer vibes. Catch live music every Friday evening through September at 506 Art, a community mural park at 506 Main St., or at the Plaza Theatre, 300 N. 5th St. Check the website for details.

Garland Manufacturing Victory exhibitManufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy
Manufacturing Victory is an exhibit that tells the inspiring story of the Home Front effort that produced tanks, planes, ships, and guns with staggering speed and unparalleled energy. A surge in productivity brought the country out of depression and created mighty military forces, supplied the Allies abroad, and opened new doors of opportunity and social change.

The exhibit is on display through Aug. 15 inside Garland’s William E. Dollar Municipal Building, 200 N 5th St.

Garland Plaza Theatre

 

Movies at the Plaza
Classic Movies and Throwback Thursday Movies are FREE at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St., thanks to the City of Garland Cultural Arts Department and Garland Downtown Business Association. Go to Visit Garland’s Event Calendar for show times.

 

Garland Granville Arts Center


Granville Arts Center
Community theatre meets big city stage! Enjoy performances by groups like Garland Summer Musicals, Garland Symphony Orchestra, and the Garland Civic Theatre throughout the year at the arts center. Currently showing - Garland Summer Musicals presents Legally Blonde: The Musical, July 22-31.

The Granville Arts Center is located at 300 N 5th St., next to the DART station.

 

Garland The Urban MarketThe Urban Market
The Urban Market pop-up market is open on the second Saturday of each month, February through December, in the heart of Downtown Garland. (February and August markets are usually indoors.)

This “Food & Finds” market features local vendors specializing in farm-fresh foods as well as vintage, repurposed, upcycled, and handcrafted goods.
