Sixty-five degrees one week, snowing the next. Welcome to winter in Texas.

Although our weather can be unpredictable at times, DART wants to make sure you’re prepared for safe travel in case of a severe winter storm.

We’ve developed severe winter weather plans to assist our riders, but we also need your help when the weather is more like North Dakota than North Texas. Follow these tips to understand these plans and prepare for how a winter storm might alter your travel:

1. Familiarize yourself with DART’s severe winter weather plans.

DART has two severe winter weather scenarios that describe service during a partial and full rail shutdown. Each allows for the widest range of service possible, with the goal of restoring full operations quickly. The plans also help riders limit the risk of spending long periods of time on out-of-service vehicles while DART staffers work to rescue them and help them continue their trips. Visit DART.org/winterweather to learn more.

2. Download the GoPass app to make purchasing a ticket easy.

Buy your tickets from the warmth of the indoors with the GoPass app. The app is free to download from the Google Play store or the Apple App Store.

3. Stay in the know with DART’s rider notifications and alerts.

You can sign up for email and text notifications of all service disruptions, including winter weather, at DART.org/email and @DARTalerts on Twitter.

DART Customer Service is also available seven days a week for routes, schedules, trip planning assistance and other DART questions. Call a DART Customer Service representative at 214-979-1111.

Stay tuned to DART Daily’s winter weather series to explore these tips in detail.
