Low-Emission Vehicles Help Clear the Air

Electric DART Rail train and Electric Bus

Combating air pollution is everyone's responsibility, especially during the spring-and-summer ozone season. DART customers are doing their part by sharing the ride. Motor vehicles are major contributors to ground-level ozone, which is formed when gases and other pollutants are released into the air on hot, sunny days with little wind present.

By taking the bus, DART Rail, GoLink, Dallas Streetcar, or the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), riders keep vehicles off the road, reducing the primary source of ozone-causing emissions.

Furthermore, DART Rail trains, Dallas Streetcar vehicles, and Proterra electric buses are zero-emission vehicles, which means they don’t release greenhouse gases or particulate matter into the air. The agency’s new long-range bus also features regenerative braking that captures the energy normally lost to heat and returns it to the battery packs.

The rest of DART’s buses are cleaner than ever, too, powered by clean-burning compressed natural gas and improved engine technologies that help reduce air pollution.

Next time you need to get to work, run errands, or attend an event, try taking transit so that we can all breathe a little easier.
