Erykah Badu_Riverfront Jazz website Capture tbaalriverfrontjazzfestival.org Happy Labor Day weekend! Three days of music, food and vendors await music fans all weekend long as a DARTable jazz festival swings through its third year. Elsewhere in DARTable happenings, you’ll find theater, fresh vegetables and even mafiosos from the ’90s. Read on to find out more, and stay safe this Labor Day weekend by riding DART. Friday, Aug. 30 Riverfront Jazz Festival is here today through Sunday, with performances by Erykah Badu (the event’s honorary chair), Raheem DeVaughn, Roy Ayers, Tito Puente, Jr., Avery Sunshine, Will Downing, and many others. The festival takes place at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters – the former convention center that’s shaped like a drum. It’s a short walk from Convention Center Station on the Red or Blue line. Grease is the word when the perennial favorite comes to the Courtyard Theater, just across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station. The senior class of Rydell High gets up to all their familiar hijinks in this production by North Texas Performing Art, cast with local teen-playing-teens. It’s a rollicking production that goes on all weekend and next weekend, too. Saturday, Aug. 31 Rowlett Farmers Market happens today from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Get some Texas-grown produce at this community-based market, only a short walk from Downtown Rowlett Station on the Blue Line. Dino Fest at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is a celebration of all things dinosaur. Taking place both today and tomorrow from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., the event finds the whole museum teeming with dinosaur activities. There are hands-on fossil digs, music and treats on the plaza, trivia, art activities and more. Dino Fest is included with general admission. Additionally, the spectacular Art of the Brick exhibit will be closing after Labor Day. It’s a good weekend to head to the Perot Museum, about a 9-minute walk from Victory Station on the Orange and Green line (and the Trinity Railway Express, too). Klyde Warren Park's Summer Movie Series presents classic films on “Dallas’ front lawn.” This is the last weekend of the series – for the year, at least – and it’s going out with the Day of the Dead-themed “Coco,” an animated Pixar film. The film rolls at 8:30 p.m. There’s also a food truck rally in the park on Sunday. Sunday, Sept. 1 Labor Day Food Truck Rally at Klyde Warren Park (told you) features more than 25 of the best food trucks around. The family-friendly event also will feature live music, activities and giant games on the lawn. It's a great way to spend the Sunday before Labor Day. The “rally” happens from 4-9 p.m. Get to Klyde Warren by walking 7 or 8 minutes from Pearl/Arts District or St. Paul stations. You can also catch the M-Line Trolley, which will deliver you directly to the park. Collective Soul and the Gin Blossoms were stars in the ’90s, and they remain popular on the festival circuit. They’ll be performing a double bill tonight at the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, about a 9- or 10-minute walk from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station. Monday, Sept. 2 90s Rewind will keep the ’90s nostalgia running with its screening of “Goodfellas” at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station. The cinema is just up the escalator and across the mezzanine from the station. Obviously more than a nostalgia trip, “Goodfellas” is one of Scorcese’s masterworks, and it should be a treat to see it on the big screen. The station is served by the Red, Blue and Orange lines. #YourRideThisWeekend #DART2riverfrontjazz   Regular Service Note: DART Rail will operate normal weekend service on Saturday, Aug. 31, through the end of the State Fair of Texas. There will be no track improvement work done on these dates. Rail replacement work resumes in downtown Dallas following the State Fair of Texas.
