Community Input Needed: Pre-Public Hearing Meetings about Potential Service, Fare Changes Announced

DART staff member tells rider about potential service and fare changes

DART is currently developing the budget for Fiscal Year 2026. Adding to inflationary pressures and contractual cost increases, the DART Board of Directors in March approved the creation of a General Mobility Program (GMP) in an effort to resolve member city issues locally. This program was developed in response to requests from some member cities seeking to address a reported difference between the amount of sales taxes collected in their city and the cost of services received.

The GMP would be funded by 5% of DART’s annual sales tax revenue. For Fiscal Year 2026, an estimated $42.59 million would be redistributed to seven eligible cities using a formula that considers the difference between sales tax collection and service costs as a percentage of the total GMP. This funding method would continue through fiscal years 2027 and 2028.

Service Adjustments and Fare Increases Proposed

In order to support the GMP, DART must plan for a reduction in service across all transit modes. A fare increase, which is phase two of the previous fare changes approved in 2024, is also proposed. If approved, these changes are expected to begin rolling out in January 2026.

Community Participation Encouraged

To ensure transparency and gather input on our communities’ priorities, DART invites riders, community leaders, and stakeholders to participate in a series of public meetings taking place through July 7, 2025.

There will be 16 total opportunities to engage, including in-person community meetings and a virtual town hall meeting. These meetings are a chance for the public to learn more about the proposed service changes, ask questions, and provide feedback.

All input collected will be shared with the DART Board of Directors at a Public Hearing scheduled for July 8, 2025.
