Ready for a three-day weekend? You betcha! Especially when it’s full of DARTable fun. Check out our suggestions for the weekend:

Friday, Sept. 1

Laughs by the Lake returns to Lake Carolyn. It’s the largest outdoor comedy show in North Texas, and it’s free. The show will be headlined Ben Bailey, best known as the host of television’s Cash Cab. The local entertainer known as Comedian Q returns to host the evening, which includes a local comedian showcase and performances by Dorie McLemore and Troy Walker. In-N-Out Burger will provide free meals to the first 1,000 attendees, and Fuzzy's Tacos will have food and adult beverages for purchase. There’s even a free shuttle between Las Colinas Urban Center Station and the event.

Saturday, Sept. 2

The first Saturday of every month means free admission and fun family programming at the Nasher Sculpture Center. It’s Target First Saturdays, and it’s a great way to bring out your preschool-to-elementary-school child’s artistic talent. The program features a lineup of activities that encourages creative thought through a monthly “Big Idea.” This go-around, the Big Idea is “Expression,” and the art project is “Crowning Around.” Take any DART Rail line to St. Paul Station and walk three blocks north to Flora Street, or catch D-Link.

Sunday, Sept. 3

The fourth installment of Dallas DanceFest is at the Moody Performance Hall – formerly the Dallas City Performance Hall – in the Dallas Arts District. Performers from a wide variety of companies make for a dynamic dance experience. Opening night is Saturday, but today there’s a 3:30 p.m. show with performances from more than a dozen companies, including Bruce Wood Dance, AJ Garcia-Rameau, Dallas Youth Repertory Project and Rhythmic Souls. It’s all a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station.

Monday, Sept. 4

Labor Day is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, and DART gets you to some of the coolest parks around. Try Haggard Park, right next to Downtown Plano Station, for a nostalgic-feeling park with a great playground, a pond and picnic areas – all adjacent to a historic district.

Or check out Klyde Warren Park, the always-lively public space that was built on a deck over the freeway and sits at the foot of the downtown Dallas skyline, within easy walking distance of the venues and institutions of the Dallas Arts District. There will be food trucks on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can get to Klyde Warren Park on the M-Line trolley or DART’s D-Link (Bus Route 722). It’s also a pretty short walk from Pearl/Arts District and St. Paul stations.

And don’t miss out on the Labor Day activities at the Dallas Arboretum, which happen all weekend. There will be live music, oversized lawn games on the concert lawn (today only), $2 hot dogs and root beer floats, and food trucks. You can get there via Bus Route 60.
