Spring has sprung, and there are lots of DARTable ways to celebrate it this weekend. Stroll around one of the region’s favorite street fairs, marvel at a half-million blooms at the Arboretum or meet a brand-new crop of prehistoric critters at the zoo. There are other stuff going on, too, and you can get to it all on DART.

Thursday, April 4

Courtyard Texas Music Series gets into full swing for the season in Plano with a performance by guitar great Monte Montgomery. The Texas-bred singer and songwriter performs at the Courtyard Theater, across Haggard Park from the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.

Friday, April 5

Dinos at the Dallas Zoo starts its epic adventure today at ZooNorth. A real-life prehistoric jungle – well, it’s still 2019, but you get the point – contains more than two dozen larger-than-life dinosaurs. Marvel at the feathered Citipati and cringe at the sight of the short-tempered T. rex. While you’re there, learn how the current-day Dallas Zoo animals are related to these creatures of the past. The exhibit runs through Sept. 2 and is included with general admission. Just take the Red Line to Dallas Zoo Station.

Deep Ellum Arts Festival kicks off today and runs all weekend. Six blocks of Main Street turn into a giant street festival for three days. There are 100 musical acts on four stages, and lots of food and beverage. And, of course, there’s art – around 200 sculptors, muralists, jewelers, painters, crafters and more. It’s all near Baylor University Medical Center Station on the Green Line.

Saturday, April 6

Sibelius Violin Concerto and Haydn gets it second of three performances tonight at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The demanding concerto will be handled ably by the 2018 Musical America Instrumentalist of the Year, Augustin Hadelich. The evening also includes Haydn's Surprise symphony and Nielsen's Fifth Symphony. In addition to this evening’s performance, there’s a matinee on Sunday. The Meyerson is about a 6-minute walk from Pearl/Arts District Station.

Free First Saturdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center presents child-friendly programming from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and free admission for all until 5 p.m. Make art or sketch in the garden with guest artists. Get literary with a project from the Writer’s Garret.  Enjoy a live performance from the McKinney Boyd Orchestra. Of course, you’ll want to get there by DART. The Nasher sits a five- or six-minute walk north from St. Paul Station.

Sunday, April 7

Dallas Blooms enjoys its last day of the year at the Dallas Arboretum. Enjoy more than 100 varieties of spring flowers, an incredible topiary, live music and much more. You can get there by taking Bus Route 60, which departs from EBJ Union Station. Get off at Garland Road and Lakeland Drive.

Once on This Island is in mid-run at The Firehouse Theatre in Farmers Branch. The musical was a Broadway hit and won a Tony Award just last year. It’s already become an audience favorite, with its Caribbean-tinged score and life-affirming storyline. Catch this production, featuring a multiracial cast, by taking the Green Line to Farmers Branch Station.

#YourRideThisWeekend

DART is making major improvements. To create a smoother ride through downtown Dallas and reduce service interruptions, track improvements and rail replacement began March 30 and will last for roughly six months. During that time, DART Rail in downtown Dallas will be discontinued each weekend between Pearl/Arts District Station and West End Station. Separate shuttle routes will be in operation. Thanks for bearing with us as we build a better future for North Texas. DART.org/plus.
