The new year is under way, and DART can take you to dynamic art installations, theater, comedy and more. Read on for this weekend’s DARTable happenings.

Thursday, Jan. 8-Saturday, Jan. 10

Steph Tolev is a stand up and sketch comedian with a unique brand of absurdist comedy. She has appeared in the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal four times, and made her American TV debut on Bill Burr's new show, The Ringers. This past year she filmed her first standup special. Catch her at the Punch Line Irving, which is part of the Toyota Music Factory development. You can walk there from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line.

 

Friday, Jan. 9

All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins is one of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s “Infinity Mirrored Rooms,” featuring one of her favorite symbols – the pumpkin. This boundary-pushing work allows the viewer to become immersed in a sublime world of obsessive repetition. Ther installation has been up since May, but you only have until Jan. through Jan. 18 to catch it at the Dallas Museum of Art You can walk there from Pearl/Arts District Station on the Red, Blue, Green and Orange lines.

Let’s Fly is another dynamic, interactive experience that lets you enter new worlds full of light and movement – with large installations, luminous displays, and huge, inflatable artworks. The exhibition is designed for all ages, and runs through April 26 at South Side Studios, walkable from Cedars Station on the Red and Blue lines.

Kimberly Akimbo is a new musical about growing up and growing old, and it won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. See it through Jan. 18 at Winspear Opera House, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on the Red, Blue, Green and Orange lines.

 

The Final Adventure of Hercules is a melodrama with gods, monsters, and drama. This is one of Pocket Sandwich Theatre’s signature popcorn-throwing productions, in which audience participation is highly encouraged. Experience it through Feb. 14 at Pocket Sandwich Theatre. That’s a short walk from the Green Line’s Downtown Carrollton Station.

 

 

Friday, Jan. 9-Sunday, Jan. 11

Madama Butterfly is the story of an innocent young Japanese girl and naval officer Lieutenant Pinkerton. It has everything you’d expect from a famous opera – love, betrayal, death. The stunning opera by Puccini is performed by a cast of singers, orchestra and chorus, led by conductor Fabio Luisi. See it at the Meyerson Symphony Center. That’s walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on the Red, Blue, Green and Orange lines.
