Deep Ellum Block Party

New exhibitions, dazzling acrobatics, and a block party in one of Dallas’ coolest neighborhoods are all on the menu this weekend. There’s more, too, and it’s all DARTable.

 

Through Jan. 5

The Trains at NorthPark is a beloved holiday tradition features more than 750 railcars on nearly a third of a mile of track – the biggest miniature train exhibit in Texas. Trains travel from the autumn foliage of New England to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, with numerous iconic stops along the way.  DART is proud to partner with the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. The event runs through Jan. 5. To get there, take the NorthPark Shuttle (bus route 402), departing from Park Lane Station on the Red and Orange lines.

Friday, Nov. 22

Glow Lab is the latest awesome exhibition at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and it opens today. Step into a dreamlike world of color and light. Build, play, and explore. This immersive, illuminated exhibit sparks imaginations of all ages. The Perot Museum is walkable from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines.

 

Dallas Zoo Lights opens this Friday. The zoo grounds are filled with more than two million lights, plus dozens of animal-shaped light sculptures and lanterns. See the luminous display on select evenings through Jan. 4. The Red Line’s Dallas Zoo Station is near the front entrance.

Friday, Nov. 22-Saturday, Nov. 23

Kacey Musgraves  is one of the most successful country singers around, with five No. 1 albums under her belt. See her play at American Airlines Center, served by the Green and Orange lines, plus the TRE.

Friday, Nov. 22-Sunday, Nov. 24

A Tuna Christmas follows radio station news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie as they report on local holiday activities in Tuna, Texas. Catch the beloved play at Granville Arts Center, right next to Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.


Saturday, Nov. 23

Deep Ellum Block Party is a community bash featuring Polyphonic Spree and Raekwon (of the Wu-Tang Clan). With an eclectic mix of genres, the event reflects Deep Ellum’s deep pool of musical talent. Elm Street will be blocked for the daylong event. Get there by taking the Green Line to Baylor University Medical Center Station.

Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet highlights an international cast including Ukrainian Principal Artists. Expect thrilling acrobatics, larger-than-life puppets, and amazing sets and costumes. There are two performances at the Music Hall at Fair Park. That’s a short walk from the Green Line’s Fair Park Station.


Sunday, Nov. 24

Lewis Black: Goodbye Yeller Brick Road, The Final Tour marks the end of the comedian’s 35-year touring career. Catch it at the Majestic Theatre, a few blocks from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.
