Aida is Lyric Stage’s celebration of Black History Month – Elton John and Tim Rice’s epic musical about an enslaved Nubian princess who falls in love with an Egyptian soldier. It’s a forbidden union, but love conquers all and their warring nations eventually experience peace. Catch it at the Majestic Theatre, just a few blocks from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Friday, Feb. 17-Saturday, Feb. 18

The Dallas Black Dance Theatre returns with their Cultural Awareness performance. The game of life is reflected in dance through the games we play and the history we preserve. The modern dance classic Games by Donald McKayle takes us back to our childhood nostalgia, experiencing both joy and terror. Tribute by Matthew Rushing, Associate Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, pays homage to decades of legendary Dancestors who preserved a slice of life with their classic works. Gregory Dolbashian is creating a world premiere that explores human behavior in audacious and vibrant ways. The world premiere of Swipe Left by DBDT veteran dancer Sean J. Smith looks at the complicated mindset of a woman desperately trying to find love in all the wrong places. The performances take place at the Wyly Theatre, a few blocks from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.

A John Williams Celebration is the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s tribute to the legendary film-score writer. The program includes Schindler’s List, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jaws, and many more. Hear the tribute at the Meyerson Symphony Center – walkable from Pearl/Arts District station, and also from the M-Line Trolley.

Saturday, Feb. 18 

Frost Fest brings wintry fun to Irving. The free festival features lots of fluffy snow, as well as snow-tubing hills, an ice-carving demonstration, a petting zoo, food vendors and lots more. It all happens at Levy Event Plaza, a short walk from the Las Colinas Urban Center Station on the Orange Line. A short walk away – or one stop away, near Irving Convention Center Station – There’s also a half marathon in conjunction with the wintry festival, dubbed Love on the Run. The race includes 5K and 10k runs, and the starting point is in front of the Toyota Music Factory. 

Saturday, Feb. 18-Sunday, Feb. 19

To DIE:GO in Leaves, by Frida Kahlo, a play inspired by the great painter’s works, takes you through a biographical journey of movement, imagery and dialog. The Saturday performance is in English, while the Sunday performance is in Spanish. There are additional performances, in both languages, through Feb. 26, at the Latino Cultural Center, just down the street from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.
