Texas Forever Fest Stage

Jazz, punk, ragtime, country – those are only the musical DARTable offerings this weekend. You’ll also find dinosaurs, Texana, and more. Read on to see where DART can take you.

Friday, March 21

’til Midnight at the Nasher presents live outdoor concerts featuring regional talent along with film screenings in the Nasher Garden. You can also take tours and check out the permanent collection and special exhibitions. There’s a bar and food, too. Tonight, enjoy music by Marc Bridges Collective, Mama Duke, and Sly5thave, followed by a screening of Toy Story. The Nasher Sculpture Center is walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.

Back to the Future is now a Broadway musical. Check out the familiar tale of Marty McFly and Doc Brown, set against an original score plus hit songs from the movie. Experience it through March 30 at the Music Hall at Fair Park. The venue is easily walkable from Fair Park Station on the Green Line.

Friday, March 21-Sunday, March 23

Jurassic Quest is a dinosaur adventure with more than 50 realistic, life-size animatronic dinosaurs. You can interact with, learn about, and even ride them. There are lots of kids’ activities, such as fossil digs, inflatable mazes, and dino crafts. Take a trip to prehistoric times at Centennial Hall, a short walk from the Green Line’s Fair Park Station.

Darkfield is an immersive audio experience presented by the AT&T Performing Arts Center and Realscape Productions. The unique experience feature three environments, each within a shipping container. The pitch-black environments create immersive worlds that blur imagination and reality. Check it out at Sammons Park in the Dallas Arts District – walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.

 

Saturday, March 22

Plano Texas Forever Fest celebrates the food, art, music and people of the Lone Star State. Enjoy live music, entertainment, activities, food, drinks and vendors with a Texas twist.  The festival takes place in Haggard Park, right next to Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

Jazz at the Museum lets visitors enjoy entertainment by the Daniel Bennett Jazz Group in a lounge-inspired setting with a full bar and light food. See it at the Dallas Museum of Art, walkable from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.

Violent Femmes play their entire second album, Hallowed Ground. After intermission, the band returns to play their debut record, Violent Femmes, plus a few other favorites from their long career. See the folk punk pioneers at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. Walk there from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line.

The Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra of Houston celebrates the groundbreaking contributions of the ragtime great, along with works by Roberta Flack and Quincy Jones. The orchestra performs selections by Black artists, honors notable saxophonist Bradford C. Leali, and features performances by student winners of the Youth Classical Artist Competition. It all happens at the African American Museum, a short distance from the Green Line’s Fair Park Station. Proceeds will benefit the African American Museum’s programs dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talented young musicians.

Sunday, March 23

Trailblazing Women of Country honors the legacies of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton – three of country music’s all-time greats who paved the way for future generations, right up to this day. The performance features Miko Marks (CMT's 2022 Next Woman of Country) and Nashville singer Kristina Train. Get ready for some great songs at the Eisemann Center. The venue is right across the plaza from the Red Line’s Galatyn Park Station.
