Theater and music are DARTable this weekend, along with a festival celebrating the cultures of Asia. Skip the parking hassles and get on DART to these events.

Friday, May 9

Lucy Dacus comes to Dallas in support of her new album, Forever Is a Feeling. After a year with boygenius, her band with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, the singer-songwriter is solo again. She’s performed on Saturday Night Live and all the late-night talk shows, and tonight she comes to the Winspear Opera House. That’s walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.

The Sunshine Boys follows an aging vaudeville comedy duo whose partnership ended badly more than 10 years ago. When they reunite for a television appearance, (comical) tension and bickering ensue. See it through May 17 at the Irving Arts Center. The venue is accessible by bus route 229, departing from the Orange Line’s Dallas College North Lake Campus Station.

H*llo K*tty Syndrome is a genre-bending comedy, with plenty of family drama and romance. And yes, the lead character is wearing a Hello Kitty™ costume – altered somewhat owing to copyright laws. Experience it through May 25 at Undermain Theatre, walkable from the Green Line’s Baylor University Medical Center Station.

Blackberry Smoke comes to Dallas in support of their 2024 album, Be Right Here. See the indie country-rock outfit at the Majestic Theatre.

Friday, May 9-Saturday, May 10

CityLine Live Music Series presents music under the stars at CityLine Plaza. Listen from one of the restaurant patios on State Street, or pick up dinner and drinks to-go and soak up the live sounds right in the plaza. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are welcome. On Friday night, enjoy the acoustic sounds of John Herbert, as well as a CityLine Night Market with local makers and vendors. On Saturday, Dev Wulf rocks the plaza with strong baritone vocals and a streak of Texana. The plaza is walkable from CityLine/Bush Station on the Red Line.

Saturday, May 10

Asian American Heritage Festival celebrates the talent, creativity and cultural diversity of Asian Pacific American communities. Cultural performances represent countries including Thailand, Laos, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, India, Japan, Korea and Hawaii. There is also a colorful parade, as well as craft stalls and art performances. It all happens in Downtown Garland, walkable from Downtown Garland Station on the Red Line.

Saturday, May 10-Sunday, May 11

Boeing Boeing is a farce in which an American bachelor in Paris has three fiancés, each unaware of the others. Complications arise when a friend comes to stay, and the bachelor’s careful planning is imperiled by a new, faster Boeing jet. Check it out at the Granville Arts Center, right next to Downtown Garland Station on the Blue Line.
