The 2023 Asian Film Festival of Dallas features 18 feature films and five short films over four days. Highlights include opening night selection The Night Owl by Tae-Jim Ahn, closing night selection Drive by Park Dong-hee, and Q&As with filmmakers Linh Tran and Sing J Lee. Catch all the showings at the Angelika Film Center, just off the mezzanine at SMU/Mockingbird Station. That’s served by the Red, Blue, and Orange lines.

The Underpants is a riotously funny play by Steve Martin. A couple’s conservative existence is shattered when the wife’s bloomers fall down in public. Hilarity ensues in this farce that examines sudden fame and the follies of romance. See the performance at the Dupree Theatre at the Irving Arts Center this Friday night through July 29. You can get the the theatre on Bus Route 229, which departs from the Orange Line’s Dallas College North Lake Campus Station.

Saturday, July 15

Flea Harvey’s is a monthly pop-up market at Lee Harvey’s featuring over 17 local vendors selling vinyl, vintage clothes, art, and more. A DJ is on hand to supply the tunes, and Lee Harvey's serves breakfast tacos and mimosas till 2 p.m. You can walk to the flea market from Cedars Station on the Red and Blue Lines.

Denton Drive Live! brings live music to Farmers Branch’s Grove at Mustang Station. This is the last installment for this year, and the series is ending on a “heartland” note. Run to You, a tribute to Bryan Adams, performs at 6:15 p.m., and Texan Fool, a John Mellencamp tribute, takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. Both acts catch the essence of their respective “tributees,” from vocals and instrumentation, to clothing and haircuts. The event is a very short walk from the Green Line’s Farmers Branch Station.

Marca MP comes to Irving in support of their 2022 album, Brindo. Catch the California band – whose style embraces banda, mariachi, and ranchera – at the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. The venue is walkable from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line. You can also take Bus Route 227.

The 2023 Basically Beethoven Festival is a terrific – and free – summer series from the Fine Arts Chamber Players. The theme of this installment of the 42-year-old festival is “Music with Friends.” Sunday's program introduces rising stars Maanas Varma, Melody Guo, and Nicole Johnson playing Mozart, with featured performers Buddy Bray, Gina Ford, Gerald Wood, and Helen Blackburnwith works by Eric Ewazen and Madeleine Dring. Don’t miss the performances at Moody Performance Hall, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or the M-Line Trolley.
