You know autumn is here when the State Fair of Texas begins. This is the first weekend of the iconic event, and this year, the weather’s even cooperating (more or less).

We think we heard something about a football game happening Saturday – could that be the annual State Fair Classic between Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M University? Plan your trip at DART.org/StateFair.

Elsewhere, there are exhibits and performances aplenty to keep you entertained. It’s all DARTable.

Friday, Sept. 24, and Saturday, Sept. 25

Lewisville Western Days is a family-friendly event with live entertainment on five stages, a Western Village, a mechanical bull, a blacksmith, and lots more. It all takes place in Old Town Lewisville, which has its own stop on Denton Country Transportation Authority’s A-train. Transfer to the A-train at the Green Line’s Trinity Mills Station.

Friday, Sept. 24

Los Tigres del Norte, a San Jose, Cal.-based norteño band, has been around more than 50 years with only a few personnel changes. They bring their tales of life and love to The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, a short walk from Irving Convention Center Station on the Orange Line.

Saturday, Sept. 25

Garland Guzzler 0.5K Race & Oktoberfest is in its fourth year now, and it happens from 6-9 p.m. in Downtown Garland. In addition to the fun race, there are activities for the whole family, plus live music. Costumes are welcome; visit the website to register for the race. The festivities take place in the neighborhood just south of the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.

Downtown Plano Art & Wine Walk lets you sample wines at your favorite shops while enjoying live music, curated art exhibitions, and special discounts. The event starts at noon and continues until 6 p.m. Check-in at McCall Plaza, which is a block from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

All Weekend

Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks is the Perot Museum of Nature and Science’s newest exhibition. It features 20 iconic skyscrapers from across the globe constructed of more than half a million LEGO® bricks. The architectural marvels are made by certified LEGO professional Ryan McNaught (he’s one of only 21 people with that title). If you feel inspired, get creative using thousands of the popular colored bricks. The traveling exhibit from Sydney Living Museums opens this weekend and runs through April 24, 2022. The Perot Museum is a few blocks north of both Akard and West End stations, both on all four DART Rail lines.
